I attend HACC, and I really like it. It’s a safe and welcoming place. The campus is beautifully designed, creating a great atmosphere for learning and hanging out. My friends and I often spend time there, and we enjoy the food. It's pretty good and reasonably priced. There are also many nearby stores and fast food restaurants, which is super convenient. The presence of security and police officers around campus always makes us feel safe and cared for. The professors are kind, understanding, and make learning enjoyable. I walk by many art pieces showcased around the hallways of the art building which are always very interesting and fun to see. I also enjoy going to the art gallery there. HACC truly offers a great college experience!

Harrisburg Area Community college gives its students a lot of opportunities to thrive! Through online synchronous, online a-synchronous, hybrid, and in person classes, every student should be able to find a class style that fits their lifestyle! It's centrally located and has been great so far! Less expensive classes give students the chance to transfer to and get their bachelors from a larger school with less debt!

I think it is a great place to learn, and the educators are very invested in your education. Not only is it very diverse, but the facility is incredible as well. I have found that the online courses are just as informative as in person classes, and great for students that may work as it offers great flexibility.

HACC is a good institution for students who are fresh out of high school that wish to transition into college life. But, however HACC doesn't offer enough opportunities student's need to excel further into their college career. HACC was a very friendly yet stagnant environment for me. Advising was not the best at times. Advisor's seemed to only be there just to do their jobs not actually help the student in need. HACC can do better in my opinion. You have to be very careful with some advisor's because they tell you what you want to hear, especially when it comes to transferring. I have experienced this myself and ended up having to stay longer than what I expected. Don't take this personally this is just a heads up. I have had good moments while attending HACC, like taking trips to Philadelphia every fall semester. There are some professor's and advisor's at HACC that do care for your college education and do push you to reach your potential. I appreciate my experience at HACC, it taught me the basics of college life.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

College will be a time of growth for you. Time will stand still as you build relationships and find your wings as an adult. It’s the first time you’ll be on your own and the path you choose to walk will shape the career you walk away with. Having been to college at three different points in my life I have learned a lot of lessons. My first experience boiled down to a $20,000 bar tab. The second was an extreme challenge while working fulltime but a healthy reminder of what I had taken for granted years before. Now 36 years old I have returned again to see a real degree through to the end and finally know the most important lesson of all. College isn’t about the beer, the sorority, the meal plan or the party. College isn’t even about the degree. It’s about education. It’s about learning and using your new knowledge to go out and improve your piece of the world. If you are not learning with passion, you are wasting your money and your time. Knowledge is power and I implore you to go out and grab your share!

  3. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Many colleges accept HACC's credits. This means, if you are trying to keep cost down, you can take your first two years there and then transfer to a four year as a junior and finish your schooling then. Also, there are many different kinds of professors. Some are professional teachers but many are from the actual work force. An example is a district attorney teaching a criminal justice course. This helps students not only learn but have some one to talk to when deciding what to do.

i'm currently taking online classes, so at the moment i can't find a whole lot that I don't like. Also, the advisors weren't very encouraging when I was signing up for my classes, because I was taking a heavy courseload and hadn't been in school for a while.

  9. What's unique about your campus?

I consider the best thing about my school to be the class size. Harrisburg Area Community College or HACC as we call it doesnt have big class sizes. All the classes that i have attended have about or around the same amount of students that you would have at a high school. There is more teacher student interaction and you are able to get more one on one time if you need extra help.

  10. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known how difficult it would be to transfer into a Costuming or Art program before I decided to go to HACC but I do not believe that would have changed my decision because the many great opportunities for study abroad and independent studies that I have been offered here at HACC are worth my time and money.

  11. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

There are two things I find valuable about my school. First I've had many incredible, passionate teachers to learn from. They made the burden of returning to school after almost a decade, a real breeze. They enabled me to find my voice and use the talents I thought I no longer had. Further, the course material and discussion questions in each class have been relevant and modern. I’m learning applicable ideas and debating issues you hear around every water cooler in America. I feel much more intune with the world and my place in it.
