Bates College Top Questions

The best thing about Bates has to be the people. Everybody is incredibly friendly and easy to talk to, and one can tell that everyone wants to be here, and wants to learn. That combination leads to a comfortable, safe, empowering, and home-like feeling on campus that I believe is unique to Bates. The incredible feeling after an atheltic victory over Colby or Bowdoin I know is special, and I that reason alone is enough to choose Bates!

I talk about the ballroom dance team. I have been the captain for two years, and all of my friends are impressed that there exists a competitive ballroom team at Bates. I also talk about how close the faculty and students in the chemistry department are; I've been to the department head's house for dinner, and gone out to breakfast and coffee with another professor. The chemistry professors are always very available to students, which is something you won't find at a larger school.

Bates strongly encourages studying abraod, and is incredibly thoughtful and accomodating in terms of accepting a variety of credits from programs all over the world.

I brag about our dining hall food, and our rank among other colleges.
