Bates College Top Questions

The worst thing about my school is the availability of diverse food sources. In my entire campus we have one dining hall and we also have a Den which is a late night food place. I think Bates could use more ethnic food sources, I know this may be hard considering the ethnic diversity of the campus but I do believe that maybe once a week the kitchen staff could incoporate an ethnic dish in the menu.

The worse thing about my college is the lack of diversity. It is a small liberal arts college in Lewiston M.E so that it should tell you. However I and some of the Dean of students are working towards a more diverse campus

The worst part about Bates College is its location. Lewiston is a very blue collar town and the population typically sees Bates students as wealthy. This causes some tension between the two different classes. There is something known as the "Bates Bubble" here which essentially alludes to the fact that students do not get off campus very often.

The endowment, because it is not large and thus the operating budget is minimal, allowing for less financial aid and improvements to campus facilities.

lewiston is not great

The biggest hold on enjoying all areas of the campus is the feet of snow that covers it for most of the year. But then again, it allows for other adventures!

The athletic department is not willing to accept change in their program. We now have a Division 1 varsity ski team as well as a Division 3 club ski team and the athletic department will not allow the D3 team to be recognized as an athletic club sport - instead we are a student organization.
