Dating sucks. people don't date. athletes pretty much hook up with athletes. You can always find someone to do something with, or attend any event on campus. I have done everything from athletic events to plays to frat parties and speakers and enjoyed all of them. I drink a lot. and I have lots of fun. I sit in the library all day so i can go out whenever i want. like a monday to play trivia against my friends at a local bar. my best friends lived on my hall freshman year.

As a straight-edge, I was concerned that the campus would be a social mismatch. Yet, You can engage or disengage from those things as much as you like. Frat membership is around 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} with a far lower sorority percent. So they play a role in the campus life without dominating it like at Penn where closer to 35{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of men rush. The transfers really add to the Brown experience. The campus has tons of activities everyday. If you were to take full advantage of the activities, you would have to lighten your academic load or your sleep. To make the most of your Brown experience, you must be open to new experiences and perspectives (socially outgoing is a plus too). Brown is what you make of it. If you want to go to a hockey game, call your friends and get them out of the library for a bit. Most people are quite happy.

In my own experience, most of the social events that I go to are hosted by athletic teams/ former athletes. Social options are very open, and I had a wonderful freshman year spent mainly with friends in my freshman dorm.

Brown does a fabulous job of hosting interesting and accomplished speakers, there is always someone speaking on pretty much any topic. The dorm life is great, there are dorms on campus that are more known for different things, like partying or quiet, etc. but anywhere you are you have independence and freedom to move. On a Saturday night, you can go to a movie on Thayer St., go out to dinner on Federal Hill which is delicious Italian food, go to the mall.

dorm doors usually stay open and people congregate in halls or common areas to drink, watch movies, hang out. athletic events are somewhat attended, football probably the most so. there are tons of guest speakers and theater shows. people can party all throughout the week usually and the scene varies from bars on thayer street to house parties to cocktails at frats. off campus, the mall is very close and there are great restaurants. a few bars, like mcfaddens and rira are popular and kids like to eat on wickeden street where the sushi restaurants are b.y.o.b.

Dorm doors are always open, and people in dorms always become friends. Dance groups are very popular and so are fraternity parties.

frats and sororities are not a big deal at all. there are two main bars on thayer street - liquid and spats, and then one main club named viva. sometimes a lot of people dont go out due to school work or home work

Athletic events are popular when we are winning. Spring Week(end) is the best time for socail interation. It's the total bacchanailan 3-7 days (depending on how much of a partier you are) of concerts and parties.

Brown is a party school. Well, for a school of smart, hard-working students, it's a party school. The party scene is mostly urban, fraternities/sororities are an option, not the rule. Students tend to hang out at clubs or bars, but drinking is omnipresent.

Depending on the dorm, dorm life can be either extremely social or very isolating. Guest speakers can be very popular depending on who it is, from Obama to Spike Lee. Brown students don't really date, they either hang out and hook up or they're married. Greek life constitutes a small portion of the Brown community but their parties and events are popular especially with the underclassmen. There are a lot of events that go on on campus and in Providence that don't involve drinking such as shows. Brown students are also not antagonistic toward people who do not drink.

the performance groups such as accapella and dance groups are the most dominant activity groups on campus. athletics make up a good amount of the student body, but in my opinion there doesnt seem to be a lot of school spirit surrounding the athletic teams. the social life/party scene is pretty laid back. nothing like a state school, but definitely lively and exciting enough to keep us entertained.

On a Saturday night, if you're not drinking, you can party at Club Sci Li. V. exclusive.

Frats are cool. Sometimes I like to go to bars also. But frats are cooler.

Frats and sororities are not a huge part of social life at Brown. Last weekend, I watched Juno with a bunch of friends and played card games. I don't drink, and I feel like there is enough to do on weekends- playing basketball, watching movies, playing games, going to the mall/Dave and Busters, going bowling, etc.

If I'm awake at 2am on a weeknight (as I often am), I'm either finishing up some work in the library or having a late night conversation with friends in our living room.

bdh generally has a good vibe on campus, christians are sometimes seen as too conservative. jews are embraced. people steal sometimes if your door is open. people either hookup or involved in a relationship, not a lot of dating. spg, gala, and spring weekend are big things that happen every year.

The most popular group on campus is the Brown Democrats, hands down. Maybe Model UN but there are so many groups that it is easy to find a niche. I am on the crew team, which practices 3 hours a day, six days a week although rowing is the most amazing thing in the world. Student definitely have their dorm rooms open. Athletic events are not popular here at all. There are a lot of guest speakers, like one every night of the week and there are quite a few theater productions. I met my closest friends here just by saying hi in the first week. If I'm awake at 2pm on a tuesday, I'm probably getting food or going to sleep. Traditions/events: ADOCH, SexPowerGod, StarFuck. People party maybe once a week, twice if you go to fishco on Wednesdays although many people find stuff to do without parties. Frats/sororities, not the place if you're into that.
