Make sure you know what you are majoring in. If you are unsure, take mostly General Education classes. College is the place where you learn a lot about who you are in life and what you want to do with your life and taking different classes and being social will help you do that.

First of all I believe that parents need to let students decide on their own where they want to go to college. Whether it is at home or away, and support their child in his or her decision. If you make a child go somewhere they don't want to then they will resent you for it. Once the child gets to the college of their choice they will want to become more involved in the activities around the campus. Have confidence in your child.......they made it through high school with good grades and they will make it through college also.

Choosing a school that is right for you or your child is a very hard decision to make. My advice on making the right choice is to first think about what kind of person you want to be and what kind of career you would like to have. Choose the best college that offers both of what you are looking for. It's not where your friends are going that is important, but it comes down to which college will best shape you as a person that is important. You have to think ahead, you have to think of the future. Just because a school is hyped up, like UCLA for example, doesn't mean it is the right school for you. It's not about the rank of the school, it's where you end up. In my opinion, a university and a cal state serve the same purpose so it doesn't matter where I go as long as I know I'll be successful in the future.

Students and parents should take the time to visit colleges that the students might be interested in. Always look at all the ares that are important when choosing the right college. Things like affordability, housing, transportation, criminal status, surrounding cities, these kinds of things are very important. In my personal experience the most important thing that I as a student was looking for was class availability and class sizes. To me the size of the classrooms play an important role in acadamics because it determines that type of relation you can have with your professors.

Finding the right college may be hard, but my advice to you is that you select the college that you believe will be best for you in both feeling at home and acheiveing your major. Start by looking up online and searching colleges that have your major in which you are intrested in persuing. Colleges that have your major will help narrow your search in finding the right college for yourself. Once you have found colleges that are in your intrest, contact them and make an appointment to have a tour of the school to get more of a feel of the campus lifestyle and what they have to offer you. This is important because you wouldnt want to come to a college where you dont know what to expect and to see if what they offer is enough for you to succeed. Once you've chosen your college the best is yet to come. Make your college experience one of the best! join group organizations, sports or clubs to help you get more involved with your school and to interact more with other students, other students that you meet can make a big difference in your college experience.

Find one that fits your personality and goals. Achieving your academic and lifelong goals is more important than going to parties and having a fun time.

The most important think to look for is where your student will be safe, and feel welcome and what better place then Cal State San Bernardino. It is a good place to get involved in and learn a lot of good and valuable information. It will help your student make their future much brighter.
Corrina
Visit the college, sit in on classes.

College is definitely a time for students to learn who they really are and what they want to learn and become in their lifetime. The college you chose, should be able to help you discover who you are and help you get to where you want to be. It is very important to do some research on the college that you want to go to. Talk to students who go to the school, and see what tehy think about the school, their likes, dislikes, etc. Definitely make sure you take a campus visit to make sure the campus is a place you could see your self being at for a long period of time. If you know what you want to major in, make sure the college offers that major, and make sure the program is nationally accredited, and is positivly looked at from the community. If you aren't sure what school you want to go to, i'd definitely suggest going to your high schools career center or even calling the career center if you are out of high school, to get a complete list of colleges around where you live! I hope this helps!:)

My first bit of advice would be to do your research! Find a school that is right for you. Be sure to figure out your expences and how you will be paying for school. I also advise joining a greek organization. Sororities and fraternities are a great way to get involved on campus. There is always someone there to help you through things and older greek members that can offer you advice. Many of the most successful people in the U.S. were greek. Being greek is a great way to make life long friends and it is proven that greeks have a higher graduation rate. Also, try and take the time to meet your professors during their office hours. This will show your professors that you care about your education and want to do well. By doing this they might also cut you some slack because they know that you care, that you tried and that you made an effort to meet with them. My last bit of advice is to figure out what you want to do (major) and from day one make a four year plan. Be sure to remember that what you do today effects tomorrow.

The best advice I could give for students and parents on making a decision for college, is to look a year ahead! Time is the most important thing! I learned this the hard way since I applied everywhere late, and ended having to go to a school that was not of my choice at all! Also, It is better to go on campus tours and find out which school is better for you. Make sure you like the environment and housing, if you will be moving on campus!

The best advice I could give other people is to really know what college is all about. I ndid everything on my own and that is why I have no financial aide and am now in debt. Please read all of your papers and how the school spends their money. Tuition is th emost important aspect. College has been the best experience in my life so far. If you love the campus you will feel comfortable and at home. Visit the campus and learn where everything is. There is so much a person can do on a college campus and learn new things and especially make friends. Talk to people in every place and learn how you can make a difference on your campus and in your life. Get a report about all the necessary classes that you need to take to get your degree. Lastly never forget that college is all about you and your dreams. My dream is going to come true soon and that is to be the first women in my family with a college degree. Work hard and never give up...the best advice my parents gave me!!!

Advice that I would give to parents and/or students when finding the right college is to first find colleges that are affordable or at least offer extensive financial aid. Next, make sure that the school you are planning on attending offers your major. To make the most of your college experience realize that your only going to be young once and may never have the opportunity to be in college later in life. Work hard while your in college so you can enjoy the rest of your life. Spend whatever free time you have from studying and get involved with what your school is doing. Its a great networking experience and a great chance to meet life long friends who share the same interests as you.
Carmen
I would advise students to visit the colleges that they are interested in attending and interact with some students already attending those schools. I would also recommend each student find reviews and ratings on the internet about the schools that they are interested in as well. Campus tours are also a great idea for getting a feel of the college campus. I would also advise future students to consider the yearly cost of each campus as well.

I think that there are many things that you need to do to find the right college. You need to find a college that has the right classes and the right environment for the way that you want to learn. There are a lot of different teaching styles and it would be a good idea to check out the departments that you will be taking classes in. I believe that this will greatly help the experience you receive. You don?t want to go to a school and then realize that its not the right environment for you after a few quarters. It is also important to plan around your income and financial aid. It is very important to find a school that you can afford with out feeling too much pressure about money, which can sometimes make u want to drop out. It is also good to make sure it is at a comfortable distance from family or friends. I think that everyone needs a support group, but it is up to the individual to determine what their limits are. If you are level headed in your decisions and research the campus enough it will be a good experience.
