Emerson is unique compared to other schools I looked in to because it makes you feel free. Everyone at Emerson chose to be there because they want to do what they love in one of the greatest cities in the world. Yes, you go to classes and live in dorms, but it never feels like an obligation or something unwanted. At Emerson, you feel like you could achieve anything you ever wanted, because you realize you are exactly where you want to be.

Upon visiting a friend at Emerson before applying, I immediately felt at home. Quite a few people were very welcoming and I even met some of my closest friends ever during that first visit. The amount of school spirit and driven, creative artists that helped one another to thrive were other important factors that helped me to make this decision to apply and ultimately attend Emerson College.

Emerson College is the most diverse, artistic group of students and faculty. Everyone is accepted regardless of any sexual orientation, gender, or attire. It also is the mos career, post-college focused out of any of the other schools I applied to. The alumni also constantly networks with recent graduates to make sure everybody gets into the field they want to be in. The school is also located right in the middle of Boston, giving access to so much, so close.

Walking down Boylston St. at 5:45pm when classes let out is a circus of eclectic style and energy. There are the nerds with the Iron Maid band t-shirts. There is the stoner in his lapsack hoodie. There is the ultimate hipster wearing his rayban sunglasses and sweet mickey mouse sweater dude. And then there is the lonely jock who becomes a leech to any like character he sees to escape the see of high school rejects, who could not wait to get to college not realizing they were about to relive their hight school days, but worse.

How socially liberal Emerson is. I've never been to a school where every guy you see you wonder what his sexual orientation is or where the students dress so extraordinarily.

Rachel

Emerson is unlike any other school in that the students are comfortable functioning outside the bubble of a college campus. Here we thrive in testing the waters of the real world and diving into any and all career-related opportunities. There is a very prominant artistic presence on campus and by attending even one social event, you are able to see how incredibly talented the students are. Everyone brings something very unique to the table. Inside the classroom, the assignments appeal to the creative mind in a way that provokes thinking outside the box.

The campus is right in the middle of an urban environment, unlike the isolation of most college campuses, so you're immersed iin Boston the minute you leave any one of the college's seven buildings. It also has very specific majors geared towards innovation in communication and the arts, especially with the specification in "Writing, Literature & Publishing" major, not the vague "English" degree that half of the schools I applied to offered.

Edgar

Freshman have the ability to get hands-on experience right from the start. Within two weeks, I had the opportunity to interview and apply for events concerning my major as well as outside activities. I also noticed that a lot of other schools focused a lot on the theory of my major, but Emerson provided me with both, theory and like I mentioned hands-on experience. Technologically, Emerson was superior to that of Syracuse, Hampshire College, and UMASS. The fact that it wasn't a traditional campus appealed to me as a chance to transition to city life.

This school is a "communications school" so focuses heavily on technology and how to use it for communicating ideas through many midiums such as art, writing, performance, etc... It also has not campus other than the city of Boston Itself so you really get that 'living in the city' feel.

Bijal

I chose this school because it was different and I knew I would experience so much more here than any other school. Students here are very PASSIONATE and DRIVEN about their future and career. I wanted to be surrounded by people like this because being a perfectionist and focused about my future myself made this college seem like home and where I belong. The only problem is I tend to feel a little out of place because this school is bankrupting me and it's too late to back out of this college after so much time and committement.

Leah

Everyone here is so liberal, they're almost conservative about it.

Melissa

We are small, but we're located in a big city--all the problems (high rent, crime) of a big city come along with all the advantages (endless resources, lots of people, easy recruitment for models and actors). Emerson offers a great urban experience with dorms so you still have a huge "home" with a big, loving community of gay men to go home to.

Anne

Emerson has a cross-registration program with several other art schools in the area, which means that I can major in acting, but still take classes at Berklee College of Music. This school is also rare in that it gives merit-based scholarships to performing arts majors. Without the honors program scholarship, I honestly don't think I would have been able to go to college right out of high school.

Jessica

Emerson is a very tight-knit community. The school is small enough that you know almost everyone there by sight, if not name. Because there are under 3000 students, classes are very small and professors are able to focus one-on-one with students. It is located in downtown Boston, so there is always something going on. Also, because so many industry professionals have graduated from Emerson, there are lots of connections available to help you find employment once you graduate.

Catherine

My school is devoted entirely to the feild of communications, and gives each individual student a unique and individual learning experience.

Dave

Overpriced, and overrated.

Sean

Emerson is a great school, and it is slowly building up an amazing reputation as a go-to school for Hollywood scouts. If you are looking for an education in film and television, it is among the top shelf.

Diana

One thing I definitely feel strongly about is that Emerson changes you as a person, and definitely in a good way. This college nurtures your talents and makes you become a more confident and independent person. Not only have I become more social, but I've never felt more sure of my career path or myself as a person. Also, and I really need to add this, I'm especially grateful to Emerson for giving me a sense of style :)

Kaitlin

Get involved, start networking, have fun, go to the Castle if you can.
