For the most part. The forget to mention how hardworking and passionate Emerson College students are about their career choice. The school really facilicitates time to pursue creative goals and allows students to work only as hard as they want to.
Shelby
Pretty much, yeah (the last one of those is 50/50 for positive...and trendy is NOT a compliment, FYI).
Matt
I don't fall into either category, and while I have friends who do, I also have plenty of friends who do not. There are a lot of kids just playing around with daddy's money who don't seem to be connected to the real world, but you'll get that at BU, BC, etc. as well.
Dave
In SO many cases, yes. But the school is beginning to market now to a more generalized crowd.
Sean
Many Emerson kids were unpopular or different in high school, and it takes time for them to find their niche. Eventually they can understand individuality and that they aren't the only ones that want to be artsy people.
Diana
These stereotypes are true to a point, but honestly, there are plenty of straight guys here (even though we have our share of gay guys as well). Also, though it may seem that everyone smokes, there definitely is a large population of Emerson students who don't.
Kaitlin
there are some of these stereotypes represented but there are other people too.
Sarah
There are a lot of hipsters, and a lot of gay guys, but we aren't all
Brittany
Well, sort of. lol. The concentration of men who happen to be homosexual is greater, and definitely more accepted in the community, but there are a lot of straight men here too. As far as the eccentric, yes, that's true. The majority of the kids that end up attending Emerson are the kids that were displaced or otherwise out-casted in high school. Those that don't fall into that category, are definitely more mature and self aware than most graduating seniors. The concentration of creative minds is absolutely greater, and I think that lends itself to a community rich in social diversity, but also eccentricities.
Carson
Perhaps there is a bit of truth that often Emerson students think they are the next creative genius in the world of film making (can you see me rolling my eyes). Maybe that's why i decided to switch to doing Media Studies. Now I don't have to listen to the how in denial most students are about their future after Emerson.
Sarah
Of course, stereotypes come from somewhere, and you will meet some of these people. But it's also really easy to find people who completely break these stereotypes, and people who realize fitting into any stereotype is lame.
Nico
Yes, but those people are actually pretty rare.
Robert
For the most part, yes!
chris
For the most part, yes, although it is easy to find pockets of people who you fit in with, even though you don't get along with some of the other groups. For example, most gay students tend to be musical theatre majors, and most potsmokers and drinkers tend to party off-campus and on the weekends.
Alex
Not in a negative way. If anything, the expressiveness I've witnessed in most Emerson Students is due to their creativity and the volume of which they express themselves is due to age and the freedom of being on their own without parents in a city.
Jerry
Not at all. Although there is probably a higher percentage of gay students than at a typical school, I'm sure that the gay population is less than 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. Also, not everyone is the starving artist type, although many students have interesting artistic ideas.
Nick
Many students are gay and both pot and cigarettes are extremely prevalent. However, many of the students are actually really nice and collaboration is encouraged. There are many stuck up artists.
Jody
Most of them, there is a huge gay and smoker community.
And We are all pretentious.
