Emerson College Top Questions

There is a little saying here at Emerson for freshmen: Gay by May or your money back! The same is said about smoking.

That everyone's gay and smokes everything under the sun.

The most common stereotype is that we're all artsy freaks with purple hair and crazy outfits.

Everyone is pretentious, artsy and gay. No sports. Open minded people.

That they're all artsy/ indie/ emo/ super trendy/ film obsessed, super liberal and gay.

Emerson students are creative

Emerson kids are very artsy, smoke a lot, and are extremely ambitious. All Emerson kids think they're going to be the next big thing. Also, we suck at math and science.

Emerson students throw the label "pretentious" around a lot to diss their classmates, and I'm sure kids from other schools do the same. That label's thrown around so much it kind of loses its meaning here.

Everyone thinks that all of the guys are gay at Emerson. That is not true, although we do have a very accepting student body that allows for anyone to express their ideas and live their own lifestyle. Because we are an arts school, there is a greater gay population than other schools in the area but I think having a gay student population helps Emerson develop a unique and open-minded learning environment. Another stereotype is that all Emerson kids smoke cigarettes.

Pretentious, gay, all came to Emerson because they got rejected from NYU, everyone is from the East Coast.
