Make sure the student is comfortable with the campus size. I was afraid of a big school and Fort Hays is the perfect size for me. College is the best expeirence you will ever have the oppurtunity to go through. Every student should make the most of it and not be afraid to get involved and make new friends.

My advice for parents is to make sure that your students choice of a college is the right choice. Students may choose a college because their friends go there or because they heard the school was a party school. I would tell parents and students to talk together and make a list of what the parents want out of their child's college experience and a list of what their child wants out of college. I think a list would give a good foundation of what qualities everyone is looking for. My advice is to choose a college that fits within a specified budget, a college that has a solid academic program, and a college that will enhance the student's qualities. Determining what college to go to is a tough choice but if all involved work together to meet in the middle, I think the student will be happy and the parents will be happy.
