There are a lot of things to do at George Mason, including getting involved with sports, clubs, volunteering, the Greek organization, and hanging out on campus with friends. Personally, I knew I wanted to get involved when I got to George Mason University, so I decided to volunteer about ten hours a week at Sexual Assault Services. They host some of the most incredible events on campus each year: The Vagina Monologues, The White Ribbon Campaign, Take Back the Night, and other events that spread awareness about sexual assault on campus. If you're in the mood for getting in the Mason Spirit, you can join everyone at Welcome Week at the kickoff of the school year. You should definitely attend the Homecoming game in the Spring when the students and alumni and friends tailgate before the basketball game. There are tons of things for students to do to get involved and meet other people. Within your majors, there are honors societies and clubs and activities to meet other people with similar interests. At Mason you will always find something fun to do!

Joining a sorority or fraternity is a favorite among freshmen and newly transferred students; it's an easy way to make new lifelong friends and have a good time, too. There are many premedical societies available that help me with my career path, and there are bound to be others tailored towards specific careers. LGBTQ is very active on campus, as well as MSA (Muslim Students Association).

I can't say that there is one most popular group to get involved with at George Mason. I think that there are popular organizations within certain categories. For instance, if you are interested in writing you would definitely want to get involved with Connect2Mason, the emerging online student newspaper. If you want to meet tons of new people but don't know where to start, fraternities or sororities are great options. If you feel strongly about your culture, clubs abound from those dedicated to hispanic heritage to those dedicated to European background. Religious organizations abound. My point is, there is no one outstanding group to join -- there are various groups you can find to suit your interests.

If you get involved in any organization, you are guaranteed to have friends! Students are really passionate about what they do and most students are involved in multiple organizations. There's also tons of leadership opportunities on campus. Personally I am currently involved in 3 different organizations, including Greek Life and Student Government.

The most popular organizations are NSCS, Weekends at Mason, Program Board, and Student Government. NSCS is the largest honor society on campus. Program Board hosts JC cinema films, Patriot's Day, Mason Day, Homecoming, and other exciting campus events. Weekends at Mason hosts weekend events to make campus life more interesting to on campus students. This keeps on campus students from being stuck in their dorm rooms on the weekends. Student Government holds yearly elections and represents the student body. This allows students to have a voice issues that impacts them. These organizations allow students to enjoy exciting events and parties on campus.

All groups, organizations, clubs and teams make their presence known on campus. Weekends at Mason, Program Board, Student Government and Greeks may be the largest known because of the activities they put on for students regularly. You do not have to join a Greek organization to participate in their events though! Mason is not the type of campus where if you do not join a Greek organization you will not have friends. The Greeks are also very nice and don’t separate themselves from the student body. I decided against it and have still met so many people. I am a part of Mason Ambassadors and that is where I’ve met some of my closest friends. Others I’ve met through classes and dorm life. Dorm life is one of the best experiences in college. Everyone leaves their doors open and is always up for something. A lot of my friends say their floors have become their family. One myth about Mason is that there’s nothing to do on the weekends. That’s FALSE! There is always a movie showing on campus, an organization putting on an even or a party to go to if that’s your scene. Fairfax has many shopping areas, restaurants and places to explore. My favorite thing to do is visit DC. Whatever you want to do, you can find it in DC, pinky promise. If you don’t feel like spending money or going off campus, there’s always pool, games and late night dining with music and occasional random dancing. You will have a good time! Before you know it, Sunday will have arrived and you’ll be in your room doing homework like everyone else.

Greek organizations are among the most popular at Mason. I am a member of the Alpha Phi Fraternity on campus, and love it. I have made life-long friends throughout the process and am constantly involved with community service activities and events. I am also involved in PRSSA which is very useful with networking seeing as I am a Communications/Public Relations major. We have a variety of guest speakers from the field come and talk to members and inform us on what the career entails.

I was partially involved with the PRSSA.

We have a greek life, but I enjoy ultimate frisbee, swing dancing, photography and a lot of other activities on campus. Mason always has an event going on to keep students busy and having fun.
