Describe the students at George Washington University.

Students are very politically aware... which can sometimes be intimidating to those who do not care so much about politics.

One of the main reasons I left New England to come to DC was because of how diverse GW is. You can find any type of student here, like students paying their way through school or a student who doesn't need to work a day in their lives. This results in a variety of groups on campus, so it all depends which you associate with. I have a lot of different types of friends, but that's my decision. Others just like to stick to their 3 best friends and don't really care about anybody else or what they think. Most students are from the East coast, but there are a lot of people from the West coast (mainly California). GW also has a high foreign percentage, so I have a lot of classes with people from other countries (ranging from England to Iraq to Korea to Argentina). GW is a VERY liberal school, but CR still has a strong presence as well. Once again, being in DC brings out the politician in everyone, which can be good and bad sometimes. The majority of students here are studying to see how and when they can make the most money possible. I'm in the business school, so there are a lot of finance majors who want to go into investment banking. We care about our success and futures because money is important to a lot of people here.

Students are mostly affluent white kids from the Northeast Corridor. There is a very large and active Indian-American community. The black community is visible, but not that large. There is a huge gay male population, but the lesbians are more underground. Gay acceptance is the norm on campus. Political views are somewhat demanded of every student.

the students here at gw are great. People are so accepting and interesting it is frightnening. I also could not picture a more united or happy student body anywhere else.

Andy

A student who wants a quiet college campus would not do well here. This is a university where the student has to be proactive and make his or her college experience. There are some wealthy students here, but there are also students who have financial assistance as well.

Bill

The student body has a variety of different backgrounds. People come to GWU for different reasons, but I think that the main one is the unique atmosphere that GWU provides culturally in the heart of DC.

Tyler

Students are ok

Jack

Wealthy stuck up kids are always around. Dont come if you are looking to find a girlfriend unless you share the same size trust fund that she does.

Rob

The GW campus is very diverse, and all groups are not just tolerated, but welcomed for their unique viewpoints. Since everyone at GW is so intelligent about what they speak on, one can't help but listen to opposing viewpoints and consider and respect them, even if one chooses not to subscribe to them. The student body as a whole leans left, but since everyone is so intelligent about their politics, everyone really has their own set of views, and can't help but listen to, and gain an understanding of, the other side. The College Democrats and College Republicans often host joint events, such as election watch parties and debates. In morning classes, many people are unashamed to show up in pajamas, flip-flops and a baseball hat, but by mid-afternoon, most students have made an effort to dress themselves.

Ben

Very wealth and white. For the most part.
