Indiana University-South Bend Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Morgan

Just how demanding college would be. I have been told by teachers that college would deffinitely be more difficult than high school but I never expected it to be so different.

Brian

Since my father used to teach here for many years there isn't really any relevant information that I have lacked.

Alisha

I wish I had known there was no pool.

Tori

I wish I had known more about the financial aid process. This isn't something specific to IU South Bend, but more to the college process. Being well-educated and informed when it comes to financial matters is a must. Research the scholarships that are available, apply for as many as you can, and only take out student loans if you have to. If you do need student loans, take out federal loans and only use private funds as a last resort.

Nina

I don't know. I'm just starting. I don't know enough yet.

I wish that i had known the policy for housing at this school before i came here. Even though it's complicated for me to pay as of right now I hope it allworks out for me in the end.

Suzanne

I wish i knew how difficult it was to get involved in activites at my campus. I wish I knew that the music program doesn't tell you things in enough time to prepare. I also wish that the dean of the School of the Art wasn't so hands on in everything and has to have control over all the different things going on.

Brittany

I wish I would have known they this is not a school that has a strong music or art program. Those were two feilds that I was interested in pursuing but the enrollment for those departments isn't very high because the programs aren't that great. Also I wish I would have known that I could lose some credits even if I transfer within the IU school system (example to IU Bloomington or IPFW)

Before I came to this school I wish I had became more involved in High School. I wish I had taken more classes my senior and got a lot more involved with sports and extra-cirruclar activities. The college offers so much but I don't have much experience so its harder to get motivated. I also had wished I'd plan to live on my own so I'd be able to recieve more finacial aid, because I don't recieve much because my parents made too much, and it's been a struggling paying for college books.

I wish I would have known about the online classes. The year before I began at IUSB I went to Manchester College. Just like in South Bend I had small classes which allowed me to be able to connect with my teacher. The problem with IUSB is the amount of online classes. I don?t like classes online mostly because I feel a directly learning from a person helps more. Although this began as a problem I feel like I can handle doing work online more easily in the future.
