Try not to let out of state tuitions or private school prices scare you away. In the end if you pick the right place for you, and take a path you feel passionate about, its worth entirely more than the money you spent in school to get there. Don't pick a place just because its where your family went or your friends will be either. You are paying a lot of money to get your education, even at smaller community colleges. College costs a lot, and takes a lot of time. Don't waste either of those. Work hard, remember why youre there, where you came from, be as open minded as possible, and remember to keep a life outside of your studies. The new people and experiences in college are just as much a part of being there, growing up, and finding the path to who you are! And of course, get some sleep sometimes!!

please do not look for a college that promises you a job. that is not the way to learn. learn by experience and failure. think critically. take a risk and back your kid if he wants to chase a dream. find a passion and decide to devote your life to it. Money is not a passion. be sure that whatever school you choose, make sure its one of the top five in the nation for what major youre looking for. do not go to a community college. most inner city colleges are not safe at night. the world is not foam padded. money is getting tighter now, go further in debt for an education, not a lexus. Drink, heavily, its the only time youll be able to get away with it. Make mistakes. cry more. stay up on caffine and uppers for two days. just to finsh a work of art youll go through hell.
you learn the true meaning of words like fervor, auspicious, ambitious. I might not ever be able to invest stocks wisely or even support a family. but im looking for turth.

Don't think that you'll know exactly the outcome of what you are trying to accomplish. There are a lot of options in this world to make your career form around. Be open to a surprising change, especially as a young person just getting out of High School. There is a lot more to life to learn about. When thinking about selecting a school, be sure that the size fits. If you are a very private person, a small school may not be the best place for you. But if you are a very social person and like to know the people you are with at all times, maybe a smaller school is better for you. College is more than just a piece of paper given to you at the end; it is a time of growth and learning. College is where you become who you want to be. This is where you learn the things about yourself that you may not have known existed. This is the time you need to be able to take risks, because the rest of your life is made for settling down. This is your time to understand yourself, and explore the possibilites.

look into what extra cirrculam is avilable and if not what else there is to do around the campus. what is expected from what department you go into.

Balance the financial options especially in light of a global recession. Save for your college expenses and conserve. There are ways to find food and books for cheap. You might have to go with out. Make sure your college communicates well with you and that you also express your needs and wants. Do not be afraid to express your needs and wants.

You both have to know what the student wants, and what type of enviorment would be good for them. The more you struggle with picking a happy medium, the more likely you are to not find a choice that makes the student happy, which is the most important part of choosing a college.

Visit campus days, and try to get a feel for the faculty and students. Make sure you understand what is expected of you from the begining. College, at least at KCAI, was taken very seriously and your grades as well as attendence was so important.

If you're looking to attend an art school specifically, the most important factor is location. Different cities have different vibes and different art worlds surrounding them. It is very important to visit many campuses and cities before deciding. Teachers and other students are drawn to specific schools because of the vibe.

Its just as hard trying to make yourself do a job you hate as it is to follow your passion. In the end you feel better falling some what short of a dream than never even going down that path.
