College opens up doors to interests you didn't even know you had. It is perfectly okay to drop a class if the professor isn't the greatest. Explore all of your options for activities and clubs. Make friends with people you wouldn't normally be friends with. Keep an open mind because that is one way to not have any friends. Study Abroad when you can. Do go to every class because you will miss out on details or important information if you don't attend. Do not let anyone hold you back from pursuing your dreams.

I wish I had known how hard it is to do everything I want to do. There is so much going on around campus that it makes balancing swim practice, schoolwork, and social life tricky. I am not in nearly the amount of clubs I want to be in because I do not have the time or the energy to go to meetings. I count this as a good thing though. Learning to balance your time is one of the most important life skills.

How alcohol isn't a big a factor in your college experience if you don't let it be. Before college there were all these informational websites and warnings how alcohol is going to be everywhere, but really I've only been in the same room as alcohol once. It made me a little nervous going into college thinking I would constantly have to deal with drunk people, but it's the complete opposite. If you choose not to hang out with those kids, they don't go out of their way to bug you, they respect your choices.

Luther College is a great place and I personally love it here. I think it is a great place if you are Lutheran and have some Scandinavian ethinicity however I have neither of those and its an amazing place to go to college.

I wish I would have understood that the professors are really there to help. My first semester at college, I struggled with the courses, managing my time, learning how to take notes in a lecture sitaution, and figuring out how to study. After my first semester, I gave in and constantly asked for help from my professors, showing to be a smart decision. They were always willing to help and give me advice. Though they promoted individuality and responsibility, they also wanted to support there students so they could grow into successful young professionals.

I wish I had known how great the opportunities were there. There is so much more that I could and would have done if I had been more self-aware and self-confident. On the other hand, I could not have asked for a better place to get my academic education and really begin to learn who I was.

Registration, room draw, and other important things are all based upon # of credits (not grades), so it would've been nice to know because then I would've taken more AP tests for college credits.

I wish I would have known how to budget my time more effectively during my first year. I came from a high school lifestyle which allowed me to participate in a wide variety of activities at once. I ended up coming to Luther and participating in so many organizations on campus that my grades eventually began to suffer. After much discernment, I had decided to cut varsity sports and other clubs in order to keep up with my musical hobbies and my activities through campus ministries. If I could go back, I would plan more wisely for my first year.

I wish I had known that Luther does not really allow students to live off-campus. Some students who apply are granted permission, but the vast majority of the stundent body is required to live on-campus. I additionally wish that I knew how much effort the administration puts on attracting prospective students. I love Luther but sometimes it feels like the administration cares more about attracting new students than about keeping current students happy.
