Morgan State University Top Questions

What should every freshman at Morgan State University know before they start?

Just a year ago I was confident and undefeatable with the ability, maturity, and sincerity to own the path I have chosen without straying from my objectives. The road changes with each choice made and a person must endure enough to discover the person they want and need to become, while still holding onto the traits that will make for a fulfilled, happy life. The simple decisions cause a rollercoaster of events to unfold and only the strongest, with the best support system can reach their goals while they stray from the path to find themselves. The future holds great mysteries for all of us, while some are the happiest moments of our lives and others are the most heart wrenching, they are all beautiful in a unique way that shapes some part of our soul. Simply stay strong. Stay strong when you feel like you cannot and stay strong when you think you already are.

Knowing what I know now about college life to prepare I would tell myself to be sure of what I want to be. I've learned that if you trully know what you want to be half of the battle is already won. There are many things out there to help you be what you want but you have to know. See you can be successful but it's hard to be successful when you don't know what you want to be successful in. Since being out of high school I've changed my major many times, worked different jobs, and looked at many different schools. But now since I have a brighter vision of what I want to be there's a lot in the process that I can avoid. If I would've know deep down then I I would've seen the help out there for me and gone down that path. There's nothing to look back to for a person who trully knows what they want because they don't look back. They're always looking forward. Much time, money, and energy could be saved if a person knows. THAT'S THE KEY!

Do not listen to your Mother when she says "I did not attend college, you don't need to go either". What horrible advice I've spent years working hard just to survive now it is time for me to stride to improve life for me and my children and their future generation. I would also advice myself error on the side of caution in all things, when you have evaluated the cituation, then make a decision. Don't rush in.

Anjanae

Anjanae, I'm writing you to let you know that the next four years will be one of the most beautiful, frustrating, confusing, and eye-opening times of you life. You'll have the opportunity to live with people so different from yourself that it will expose you to things that you never knew existed within you. I know that sometimes you feel like you can't relate to your peers and you'll always be the odd man out. While I'm afraid these thoughts will probably never go away, trust me when I say that you will meet so many others who share your interests. Be true to yourself and stay humble. You have a tendency to inadvertently become the teacher's pet. Accept it. It will work to your benefit in the long run. This transition will be diffucult, as you will begin to discover some parts of youself that you're trying so hard to suppress. Embrace it all, it will make life so much easier. By the way, brush up on your Portuguese, because you'll be presented with opportunity to study abroad in Brazil, and it's going to be amazing!

The most important advice I would give myself is that I need to take advantage of everything that was or wasn't taught to me. Teachers are paid to teach me what is in their curriculum but, it is up to me to go pass what was taught. I would tell myself to learn things for myself and my future. Another important piece of advice I would give to myself is to remember the people that say they are there to help you. There are a lot of people out here waiting to help someone they are just waiting to be asked for help." You never know who knows who." Lastly I would tell myself to always be kind to everyone that crosses my path. My mom always said "you never know when you're entertaining an angel". With that being said that one person you might be nice to could give you the job of your dreams. So always walk around with a smile on your face and a thank-you on your lips.

Dear Derrick A. DesVignes Hi! I am Derrick A. DesVignes of the year 2012 in January; in addition, I am writing this letter to you to give advice about college life. First, the most important advice that I can give you is to not stop praising and acknowledging Jesus Christ as your lord and savor. The reason why is because he comes first in all life's struggles that you go through. Also, he well always provide a way for his christians no matter if you were a theif just like the one that was crucified next to him. Last, another advice is to not stop looking and signing up for scholarships and not college loan. The reason why for this is so you will not owe people money in the future. Sincerely, Derrick A. DesVignes

First, I would advise myself to look into financial aid and loans in order to get my tuition and books covered, along with federal subsidized and unsubsidized loans to cover the amounts that financial aid does not cover. Second, I would make sure to tell myself to get a job that works around my school schedule and not to go overboard on working, thus allowing time for studying and homework. Last, but not least I would advise myself not to procrastinate! Get my assignments done as soon as I get them so they are out of the way and I can focus on other assignments.

If I could go back in time knowing what i know now, i would prepare myself by taking college now courses. I would also have prepared myself better for the S.A.T. and the college entrance exams. Another word of advice i would give myself is to prepare myself better to write mulitple page papers and to be able to multitask being a full time student and being responsible for getting to class, do the assignments and studying for exams, because unlike high school, college professors don't give second chances, you are responsible for yourself and if you fail it's your own fault.
