Jeffrey
Someone who is dependent on others. You need to be entirely independent, focused and driven to survive at NYU. Or else you just get lost in the mix.
Sarah-Jayne
Someone who is looking for a traditional college experience. At NYU, there is no quad, no football team, no greek life.
Olivia
Someone who is shy, not used to/doesn't feel comfortable with being indepedant. Someone who depends greatly on financial aid, because it's terrible at NYU. Someone who doesn't feel comfortable in an urban environment. Someone who is looking for a traditional American college experience. (There is no football team, frat row, or quad. And you won't feel like you go to a "real" college a lot of the time)
Ellen
Someone who is looking for a typical college experience, with a sprawling closed off campus should not attend. NYU does not offer that, nor does it offer a big emphasis on Greek life or sports teams. Also, unless you are interested in a specific major or career NYU is noted for (the arts, buisness...) you should not attend if you are worried about paying for college. NYU is very expensive and there are many other universities in NYC one can attend. Unfortuanatly, NYU does not offer much financial aid and this worries many students as they advance towards graduation.
Nathan
An emotionally needy person who is dependent on others (friends, administration) for lots of support, someone who doesn't come from a financially stable background, a person who does not like city living, a Republican or hardcore conservative, someone who doesn't make friends easily
Amy
People who like the idea of school spirit, or school as a community shouldn't apply to NYU.
Nick
Someone with a low income. Seriously. It's not worth it. Don't make the same mistake I did. No seriously, I'm not kidding. You'll be better off saving money and working your way up later on. Don't apply. Don't. Don't believe in the myth that if you go to a great school you'll get a great career. You need money. You need it.
Elise
Someone looking for a strong sense of community or school spirit.
Frank
Someone who is reticent, shy, introverted, or non-confrontational.
Emilia
An introvert. Someone who depends on others to tell them what to do. Someone who is extremely close-minded.
Abbey
You shouldn't attend this school if you aren't friendly and outgoing. Everyone I know who has left NYU hasn't been able to make good friends or have a good time, and every one of those people just waited for friends to come to them. Doesn't happen. I knew no one when I got to NYU, and now I have hundreds of amazing friends from all over the world. It isn't the school, it's their being unfriendly people that keeps some students from not liking it.
Roomie
Close-minded people.
Kimberly
I have always said that a person that believes that there is only one way to fit in a school would not do well here... We don't have an overarching sense of community; you have to make friends in several different circles. It's a different way to look at college, but it means that a lot of people can find a good fit here!
Evan
Someone who is looking for a small, conservative environment. NYU isn't going to give you your typical college experience. It certainly isn't what I dreamed up in my head. But, if you can get past that, recognize the beauty of the city and the resources it brings to the school, it can be the rigiht school for just about anyone.
Ashley
People from small towns seem to have the hardest time adjusting. It is also difficult for conservative and many Christian students, but there are small networks and communities for every type of person if they seek them out. NYU is also a very hard school to finance, and financial aid usually comes in the form of loans. Almost every middle class student will have to work a decent amount of hours a week to support themselves while living in New York.
Phylicia
If your a person with low self esteem or aren't willing to develop friendships with different or unique people then NYU is not for you. At NYU, You can't stay in your dorm room and watch the city pass by. You must get involved or you will not enjoy the privileges of having a university in the middle of the city.
Janna
NYU is a VERY liberal school, so if you have a conservative mindset or have a hard time accepting people with alternative lifestyles, don't even consider it. There's no actual campus, jut a section of the city, so a person who's looking for the normal college experience will also be disappointed. The students here are also serious about their work, and can be competitive-if you prefer working in groups to studying alone, you might want to look at another college.
