North Carolina A & T State University Top Questions

College is completely different from high school. There is distractions everywhere you turn, freedom to do whatever you want and no one to chase after you. There will always be time to have fun and party but there will never be time for you to go back to adolescence. So stay focused do not procrastinate and get invovled with the campus. College is going to fly by, have fun but get your work done first. College is the best years of your life!

Make sure you know what you want to study. If you're not sure, start out at a community college, taking only your general education classes until you figure it out. Take out the least amount of student loans as possible. It may mean having to work while in school and really budgeting but in the end you will be glad that you don't have a lot of student loan debt to pay back. Get involved in as many clubs and organizations as your schedule allows, that is the best way to get to know your peers. After your freshman year, even if you move off campus, move into student living apartments. These include all your utilities into your rent and really reasonable for a budget.

I would re-think my class choices that I had scheduled for my senior year. I would also try to participate in activities that would allow me to transition from High School to College . I would also be more aware of the differences in a High School campus verses a College campus. I would also utilize my High School Counselor and friends to get more out of my education so that I would be prepared for College.

I would prepare myself more into becoming better student by starting earlier and taking classes in high school that would of transfered over. Also the worse thing I did was try to come as a college freshmen and take up 18 credit hours as a freshmen i didn't really know the significance of credit hours and thought i could do it and found it very difficult. I would change that because i could of had an overall better gpa than i came upon. During the last year i had to really learn how to study because just reading and listen in class was really not enough. Overall college has transition me into a better student/person in oe year and i can't wait to see who i beome i the near future.

I'm so proud of you! The ending is about to be a new beginning. You are accepted to the school of your choice and I’m super excited for you but there are somethings I need to tell you. Of course you have hardly any help and being the first in the family to graduate from a university is a lot. Mom and dad haven’t done what you are now going through. So I’m here to help you. Apply for scholarships. Yes they are so intimidating and you are being pushed left and right but don’t give up. There are so many out there for college and high school students it’s ridiculous! So in other words KEEP SEARCHING.... Another piece of advice is to stop listening to all the “haters” out there. People are out there trying to find some way to make you miserable. Being out of state takes guts and a backbone of steal. It’s up to you to keep pushing to achieve your degree. You have the perfect foundation of marching band, Tau Beta Sigma (you will know soon), and flute choir. Stay focused, have fun, and be happy.

I wish that I had known more about scholarships available for new students during my freshman year . The full importance of upholding a 3.5 or higher my freshman year in college meant nothing because I didn’t apply it properly. Over the 3 years of attending this university and becoming more involved with different organizations I have learned about the ample amount of scholarships set aside for specifically for freshman every year and it makes me want to go back and start all over and apply the knowledge I’ve obtained about the many scholarships awarded to incoming freshman. Proper research within the university's scholarship fundings would have better prepared me to recieveing awards.

I will tell myself to prepare for college life before my senior year. During the summer before senior year starts, I will tell myself to start applying for scholarships and grants. Take the SAT and ACT early because if my scores are low, I will have another chance to take the test over. Also I will tell myself to prepare for those tests. When you have high scores it opens up more college doors for you. Submit all applications to the colleges of my choices early. I will advise myself to plan ahead not to waste time. Don't wait until the last 4 months of high school, to start making decisions about what are my plans after high school. Also I will tell myself to get a part-time job. Save some of that money, because it will come in handy when I go off to college. The best and most important advice I will give to myself is to have fun my senior year and enjoy being a teenager. When that hat goes up in the air, I will enter the beginning of my life as an adult.

Looking back on college now, I would tell my high school senior self to take her time and ask for help when she needs it. She should allow others to help her when she needs it and not be afraid to ask for it. She should work with others in her classes and visit the professors for extra tutoring. She should join a few groups and tyr to make more friends as well. She should make the most of her college experiance rather than focus just on finishing.

You are only young once and although you feel that because of this you should have fun all the time, school is much easier when you are young. As you get older, life happens and you have more responsibilities. When you’re young, school should be your priority. There will be plenty of time to enjoy life when you are done with school and it will be so much easier financially to do so with a degree. I’m sure you’ve heard it and infinite amount of times, “Education is important”, but it is the basis of a successful and enjoyable life. An education will give you security for your future endeavors and the backbone for a flourishing career and life.

I would say to my self,take seriously your studies and pick a career that you like,not what your parents want you to study.The future is hard and if you don't have a good educacion you won't get a good job that pays good.And maybe you won't be starting college now and struggling to work,study and attend a home..That the bad decision you make you will regret..And studing is good ,to learn new things is great makes you feel useful and smarter..That is what I wolud say to my self.
