Describe the students at Northeastern University.

Andy

Everyone for the most part is aggressive and cut throat (very much like the professors). It can be intimidating, but you meet some amazing people. One night after Rumor (nightclub) I found myself in an amazing apartment in the Ritz Carlton residences full of Andy Warhols and lavish furniture. We sat there all night in the room there were people from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Italy, France, Kashmir, Portugal, and Russia; the schools they were from : BU, MIT, Northeastern, Tufts, Suffolk, and Georgetown. The conversation, wine and music really made the entire night spectacular- we were there till 9 am. "NO COMMENTS"

Most NU students are from New England, Long Island and New Jersey although the demographic seems to be becoming more diverse (thank god!) Diversity is lacking, most white people have never gone to the African American Institute/Asian American center/Latino center nore do they attempt (for the most part) to meet others of different races. Students here are not ignorant of politics, it just doesn't seem to be that important. The majority of students seem to be Red Sox loving, beer drinking, typical college students which gets old after a while..Def. a liberal lean on campus but it's not overwhelming.

Claire

i love it that there are so many types of students. as there sre many americans there is people from almost any copuntry in the world.

I would say that Northeastern's student body is: stylish, in-shape, intelligent, ambitious and wealthy. The campus is diverse but there have been days where I have seen 99{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} Caucasian people. It's not a problem for me, but, if you are looking for a diverse crowd, you may want to choose somewhere else. I have not seen nor experienced any prejudice. Tolerance is something you expect here. I cringe when I see students show up to class in sweats (even to an 8am class); it's just not right. There are a few students who come from low-income backgrounds, but be prepared to meet people who have bank accounts filled to the brim. Therefore, students here love to talk about money whether it is how much they earn from their co-op job or how much allowance they receive from their parents. Most students are liberal and make it known, but I have met a few conservatives. Most students are from the Northeast.

Most students are open to others of different race, religion, sexual orientation or socio-economic background. This can be seen in the fact that none of these adjectives are used to describe people and such are a non-factor; they never come up in conversation. Such a large community allows any type of student to find a close group of friends. Most students dres casually to class. Early morning classes have more students still in their pajamas or sweatpants, while afternoon classes have jeans and nice shirts. Most NU students are from New England/New York/New Jersey, about 60{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. The other 40{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} can be from anywhere. I have met students from California, Wisconsin and Indonesia. Most students are of middle class financial backgrounds. For the most part, students are left-winged.

There is a really good mix of people on the campus, with the wide range of majors to choose from there are people with all types of personalities and social abilities. There are a lot of people who are from MA, NJ, and NY.

Lauren

The student body is pretty diverse here. We have all kinds of student groups you can possibly think of, from the John D. O'Bryant African American Institute, to LASO (Latin American Student Organization) just about any ethnic group can find its niche. All of the student groups have an opportunity to come together by co-sponsoring events, and participating in student government. Being in Boston, most students here tend to be pretty liberal minded, but we do have a very strong NU Republicans chapter, with their own media publication called the NU Patriot. Students at NU are from all over the globe, mostly in the US but international students are easy to find in every classroom.

Amanda

The NUBILAGA group (LGBT student group) has some very entertaining drag shows! The Student Government Association and Council for University Programs are the most popular organizations, and have really great events, ranging from comedy shows to concerts, lectures to cookouts. The only person that would feel out of place at NEU are students who don't like the city, and who prefer small schools. Other than that, there are all sorts of students attending this school, and no one pays any mind to them. There are jocks, artists, frat boys, geeks, people with tons of piercings/tattoos, Taoists, you name it. Everyone is here.

Sam

It's very diverse. The majority of students are from the Northeast, but there are students from all over. Most students are middle to upper class, because Northeastern is very expensive.

Caitlin

Again because our campus is so large, you will find a mixture of everything. Students will always complain there is a lack of diversity, but I think NU has a great mix. We have student group aimed at almost anything you'd like. NU Democrats, NU Republicans, NUBilaga (LGBT group), LASO (Latin students) are all very active groups on campus. I think there is a place for everyone on campus.
