Oglethorpe University Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about Oglethorpe University? Why?

Sometimes the best qualities, are also considered the worst in my eyes. As a freshman at Oglethorpe, you get to register for classes after the upperclassman. This Spring semester, due to classes having a limit, I wasnt able to get into a Math class that I wanted and needed to get into. Due to this problem I now have to take classes over the summer. Oglethorpe offers great classes, but because of the small size they dont offer enough slots for classes like much bigger schools. Not letting a certain number into the classrooms effects its students, students like me.

The worst thing about the school is the price. With fees, books, tuition, and housing/meal plan it comes close to 42, 000 a year! It is difficult for many student to fill and compensate for what the school does not give. Financial difficulties are the top reasons for discontinuation of learning here.

The commute. thrity to forty five minute dirve from Marietta to campus on a good day is a pain in the you-know-what.

One thing I would have to say is the lack of school spirit. Being in Atlanta, we are surrounded by other schools that are bursting with school spirit, so I tend to compare us to those schools, but there are times when we get excited for Oglethorpe. But personally I would like to see more.

The worst thing about my school is that we don't register for classes online. We do it the old way. People go to the registar class on their year day. You stand in line with the others. The only good thing about this is that the year sizes are under 200.

The lack of organization in many offices

The worst thing about the school is that if you don't go to class, your professor will definitely know.

The worst thing about my school is that the financial aid office is almost of no help to the student. I was given the run around in regards to my aid and work-study for a year and a half. I was constantly told that there was no funds, no alternatives, and no other options. That is, unless I could provide a credit worthy co-signer for a private loan. As a student from a lower middle class family, I had no hope of finding such a person. I finally got help on the brink of withdrawal from the university.
