Krista I know right now you may think your dreams are unachievable and that you aren't capable of going to College and earning that teaching degree you dream about, but you're wrong. Just because mom and dad didn't go to school dosen't mean you need to doubt yourself. You will come to learn the world is a beautiful place and there are some amazing people out there willing to help you each step of the way. Don't be afraid of failing, you only fail if you do not try. It may take a few years of financial heart ache, a home forclosure, and the birth of your beautiful daughter to make you realize college is where you need to be, but once you do there is a wonderful team of academic advisors at Piedmont Virginia Community College ready to walk you through the process. Every step you take is a step towards your own classroom. College is an amazing place for you to learn and grow both academically and socially. You can do this, just take a deep breath and remember this is where you belong. You are a college student and you are successful.

1996 has been a rough year. Losing Dad feels like the worst thing that has ever happened and like the pain will never end. The urge to run away from reality and the regret at not having another chance to tell him that you are sorry burns like fire. The mountains of college applications, the endless avalanche of aid forms, and the uncertainty of the future are eating at you like a malignant disease. Right now, taking some time off from school is the right thing to do. I know the look of disappointment on Mom’s face will crush you when you tell her that you won’t be going to school. You feel responsible for crushing their dreams that you would be the first in our family to attend college. Remember though, Dad has always supported you and always will, regardless of the path you take from here. This path will be harder. NEVER STOP LEARNING. Learn from the experience. You will be ready. You will succeed because you are good enough. When you start school again in 2014 you will succeed because you were never taught how to fail. Dad will always love you. I love you.

I was very stressed and nervous about leaving high school and going to college. I would tell myself that its okay to be nervous, its a new situation, and its okay to wonder if you can do this. Although you weren't very excited about going to PVCC in the first place, this was the best thing you ever did! Things will get rough, and wont got the way you want them to, but don't let it bring you down, they happen. You were worried about how your learning disability would adapt to college, well good news, it doesn't cause you an problems. Go to the tutoring center more often, I know that you think it means that your not a good student, but in reality, that is the place that will help you pass statistics. Although this is new, and scary, things get easier. You will learn how to be responsible for what goes on, it give it sometime. Things may get tricky, but you can do it! Just relax!

I do think of one thing as a regret and that would be that I didn't take my studies as seriously as I should have. When I was younger it was the "Im 2 Cool 4 School" phase. IF I would have listened to me today back then I could have already been done with my degree. Some times people have to learn the hard way so that they can become strong and learn and grow from our mistakes. The only thing I can change now is who I am today and what I can become tomorrow. Life is about making the best of what we have. The best advice is to live with out regrets, to do what you can this day and every day of your life. Being a mother of a 5 yr old, 3 yr old and a 11mo old I have learned life is short. Now that I am going back to school I am going to give this everything I have to prove to myself that I have learned from my past and on the end I can look back and be proud of what I have accomplished. Because of my choices.

If i could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior, i think i would tell my self to go on more college trips. To see what the other colleges are like.

Hey look ME, you need to listen here and do what I say! College is fun. There are all kinds of partys, girls and fun things to do. The problem is you need to stay away from them as much as you can. Have some fun but remember why you are there. You have to make it to every single class. You have to complete any course work as soon as it is assigned. You can't fall behind and expect to catch up as easily as you did in high school. This time in college will determine the course for the rest of your life. Work hard and you will be rewarded. Fail and you will pay for it forever.
