Sports play a pretty big role on campus. Most students who stay on campus over the weekends go the the Football games. Many student who go will tailgate and pregame beforehand, but not everyone does it. The Football games are loads of fun as we have our little own traditions such as Metallica on 3rd down, R-U chants, 1st down chants, TD chants, etc. Our basketball student section is smaller than football, but the games are equally as fun. We pack the RAC, which has been called the loudest arena in College Basketball. We do several chants and love to heckel other teams and their players.

Sports are a big deal here at Rutgers. College football may not have the following here that can be found in the south or Midwest, but it's still an influential and vibrant part of life at Rutgers. My first game here was loads of fun- a bunch of clearly drunk frat brothers jumping around like idiots with their faces painted and shirts off...in November. It was so stupid, but the infectious excitement of it soon had me cheering with the rest of them, even though I was completely sober and know absolutely nothing about football.
There are a lot of other sports here as well. I'm not really the authority on athletics here, having a strong aversion to most things sports-related, but I can say that there are some really great pools, beautiful hiking trails, and a golf course,on top of all those other classic team sports. Werblin (on Busch campus) is the best gym around for all those looking to avoid the Freshman fifteen.

You can't get any bigger than the Rutgers football games. Students get drunk before the games, especially the big ones, and traffic on route 18/Busch is crazy like Obama is in town or something. If you enjoy school spirit, a football game is the event to go to. Tons of students put on their Rutgers gears, some all day long before the game, and show up cheering louder than our very own cheer and dance team. I've heard the basketball teams are pretty good too, especially the girls team. I haven't heard much about the soccer or lacrosse teams but they are often featured in the Targum. Recreational sports are pretty big too, especially on Busch campus. Beach volleyball courts are located on Busch and the Rutgers' only hockey rink is on Cook/Douglass.
