students:Do what YOU love, choose a school that YOU are completely comfortable with...parents: KEEP AN OPEN MIND! My mom did not know what I would be doing with my life as an art major at a Catholic Liberal Arts School but...I'm a senior and about to graduate with BA in Graphic Design and Photography and it's safe to say I made all of my own choices and do not have one single regret about picking my ideal school and setting up my future plans.

The best advice is to visit as many colleges as you can before you make your decision. Because there are so many colleges and universities, one is bound to fit you academically and socially. When you do pick a school, make sure to get involved with on campus clubs/organizations right off the bat!! This allows the new student to get a sense of what their school has to offer.

Take your time and make sure the teacher student ratio provides a learning envirnment

My advice is to find a college that gives you everything you want, regardless of the cost of tuition. I chose a college out of my price range because it offered me everything I was looking for in a college, and although i'll be paying off loans for many years to come, I have never regretted my decision. It is incredibly important to find a college that not only offers you the educational experiences you want, but also will provide you with extra-curricular activities, internships, and social networks that will give you an all-around experience and provide for you the best outlook for the real world.

Judge each college visit upon the "feeling" that you get from being there, surrounded by students that you may or may not easily see yourself being a part of. Do not judge any students that you meet before getting to know them. Potential friends lie around every corner if you are willing to let them be so. Strive to be open minded, challenge your ideas and values, be willing to contemplate introspectively, be ready to grow and change, want to learn and enrich your life. Try to take best advantage of your professors-- they will be the smartest and most inspiring people you meet. Ask around for who the good professors are-- even the most toturous material can be taught and learned if the prof is exciting and engaging enough. Learning is the most important thing one can do with themselves in making the world a better place. Appreciate the opportunity for education and greet every day with eager enthusiasm.

You need to find the college that fits your needs and wants the most, not just a few of those needs.

Many students are eager to graduate high school and immediately leave the environment they have grown up in. For small town kids, they may believe they want to get away from home and be on their own in a city. I also thought that I wanted to get away from home and be by the ocean. O boy was I wrong. I had also let my parents pick out my institution for me because I had wanted to make them happy. My advice to parents; be very patient with your kids as they venture into a world they don't know. But watch their faces very carefully as they go to visit each school. You do know them best and your advice does count, but not for everything. Take into account, the professors and extracurricular activities because without those two factors, an individual will not succeed. Everything else will work itself in to the picture.

I would say to go on visits to the schools and observe the social setting as well as the teaching methods to determine whether or not it is relevant to what you are looking for. Definitely consider the distance from home, as many freshman get homesick and feel a little lost in the begining of their college life!

I think a college should be chosen based on the academics there. College is very expensive and i think it is best to get the most out of it. Last year i hated it at my college and soon realized that although it is nice to have friends the money is so i can get a better education. You will always find those people who you know you will be friends for life. So chose your college based on the teachers and the major you are interested in and worry about friends once you get there :)

Dont be afraid to have an open mind and try new things. You only get one chance to live these years, make the most of out of them. But also dont forget to be yourself, dont change who you are to just fit in. Follow your goals and dont give up. Learn from your mistakes and be kind to others. Your experience at any college is going to be what you make it. So make the most that you can out of every day that you have. Going to college is a lucky opportunity that you have in front of you, so people dont get that opportunity-so do all that you can with it.

When looking for a college, make sure to choose what you really want, four years of your life will be spent there. Make sure that you will recieve a good education and opportunties to make something positive of your life. Regardless of where you attend parties will be present, don't be afraid any college will have a lack of people to meet and things to do. Believe it or not, everything your parents said about money being scarce is true., so scholarships and the ability to find a job are very important. Big schools can be a lot of fun, but the smaller the campus the better chance you have of feeling in a close and caring community. The next four years are what you make of it, you will spend this time shaping yourself into the person that will enter the real world.

Pick a school that you think best suits your personality.

Go with your gut instinct. The feeling you get when you first walk on a campus says a lot about whether or not that school is the right one for you. Pay attention to the kinds of students you see and try to pick out a group of people you could see yourself hanging out with. Make sure you know if you want to go to a big school or a small school, and make sure the school is at the right academic level for you. Once chosing a college, just have fun. College is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Be sure to socialize and make as many connections as you can, but don't forget to focus on your academics! It can be hard to balance school work and social life, but anyone can do it if they just try.

In order to find the right college you just have to knwo what you want before you start visting colleges. Do you want a big school or a small school? Do you want a school where you can focus on school as well as extra curricular activies? As long as you can answer these types of questions you should be able to find the college for you. Also when you go to visit colleges, one should stick out and just feel right for you. You should be able to picture yourself there. Good luck with finding the best college for you!
Amanda
Don't settle for a school you're not completely happy with. Having a bigger loan will be worth it if you'll be happier at a more expensive school. Take into account the size of the school, don't go to a school that won't fit your personality well.

When going into the college search, it's beneficial to know two things: what you want to do after graduation and who you want to be. If you know both of those things when searching for a school, you are one of the few lucky ones because that will make finding your college much easier. However, if you are anything like me and didn't know either of those things, looking for colleges that foster that knowledge will be the most rewarding. Perhaps it is because I go to Salve Regina that I give this advice for our school is rooted in self-discovery and understanding. Life is much more enjoyable and worthwhile the more you get to know yourself, and a school whose students and faculty that are accepting of that can only make the experience more fulfilling. When looking for a college, the mission statement is where I started. If it speaks to you, that can make all the difference. Once you find the right college and want to have the best experience, know yourself and embrace it, the rest will fall into place.

choose a place you feel comfortable at once your start walking around. and try to not go to school with a bunch of people you know.
Erin
Over night experienes probably give a prospective student the most amount of information about the campus. Look at as many schools as possible and go to a state school if they have your major!!
Jenna
I would advise parents and students to visit every school and ask the students who go there lots of questions about what they feel is the most important part of college. I would also stick with one activity to partake in at school and make sure they have a sufficient enough program to have fun and enjoy through the four years or however many years of attendance.
