San Diego State University Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about San Diego State University? Why?

Kay

I love SDSU but I have found that people tend to form in groups by their majors or if their Greek which I find hard to socialize.

Caylin

Everything revolves around greek life. If you don't want to be involved, go to a different school.

Dorrin

I think our school is very big on sororities and fraternities, which I don't exactly like. Also I feel like our professors could sometimes do a better job of teaching us the material.

April

The worst thing about San Diego State University is that it has a horrible reputation of being a "party school." Playboy Magazine recently named it the top three party school. The fraternities and sororites definitely play a big part in that and the drinking and drug-using definitely has an affect on students' performance in class.

Victoria

San Diego State has a reputation as being a party school. Being located near a popular beach area gives many of the upper classmen the opportunity to go to bars and clubs. SDSU is waht you make of it. Like any campus in the U.S. there is going to be a party but there are many alternatives to parties if that isn't your scene.

Kevin

The distance from home. Its nice to be on my own and experiencing college life away from my family; but sometimes I wish I was a little closer to home so I could see them that much easier

Brent

The worst thing about San Diego State is its reputation as a party-school. It is true that we have the most attractive people, the best parties and the wildest rock concerts, but that is in addition to the encouraging and nurturing scholastic environment. SDSU conducts important research and produces intelligent thoughtful graduates, but the party-school reputation detracts from that.

Dustin

I think as much as the school's ideology encourages interaction among students, it is not so much encouraged in class projects such as group assignments. Also there is always much activity going on on-campus, but I don't feel I hear about all that goes on; I get essentially all my information via email and feel that I don't recieve enough enough updates and the schools online calandar of activities is insufficient.

It is becoming very difficult to get classes with budget cuts. and an increased demand for education. The solution has been to pack more students in each class or to go hybrid. Many teachers offer hybrid classes - part on-line, part in class lecture - to accomodate the student load. The large class sizes coupled with less interaction with the professors is not an easy transition for most students.
