Smith College Top Questions

There are a couple of types: 1) The girly girls who wear pearls, miniskirts, northface polar fleeces, and flip flops at every available opportunity. 2) The super gay lesbian types with short hair and men's clothing. 3) The nerdy girls who have no social graces, no makeup, wear capes, and play D and D. 4) The indie girls who go to rock shows all the time, smoke, and make fun of your favorite band. There are plenty of people that fit none of these categories as well. Also, some people combine a few of the types. Everyone is considered to be smart. People from the outside think all Smith girls are desperate and horny and get really excited to see boys. Maybe some do. I don't really know.

Stereotypes: Smithies are incredibly politically liberal and all lesbian.

Some of the stereotypes that I've heard is that we're all radical feminist lesbians

Smithies are ugly. Smithies are extremely hardworking and motivated. We don't have enough fun. Everyone is gay.

Smith and Smith students tend to be stereotyped as extremely liberal and the epitome of a "tree hugger."

Non-Smithies have stereotypes that all Smith women are man-hating feminists.

Smith students are assumed to be man-hating, rabid feminists.

Smith students are thought to be feminists, lesbians, and rich girls

"Everyone at Smith is a lesbian and if you are not one when you get here, you'll be one by the time you leave"

That because Smith is all women, everyone is a lesbian and there aren't any parties on campus.
