SUNY Empire State College Top Questions

What should every freshman at SUNY Empire State College know before they start?

Greta

I started at a very expensive school that I could not afford and I did not know what I was going to do with my life. Now I'm a college senior and I'm finshing school at an online university, and in May I will graduate with a degree that I am not sure I even want (Interdisciplinary Studies). I wish someone had told me to go to a community college first and take a good sample of classes and really search for what I truly wanted to do before deciding on finishing at a university. If I had done that, I would not be four years into school, finishing a degree that does not help me, in debt up to my eyeballs, and looking at two more years to attain my new goal: becoming a registered nurse. I do have some regrets about the college choices I have made, but I believe that through them I have learned more about myself and have grown to become a very well-rounded woman.

The advice I would give myself is to begin the process of exploring my interest in the college of choice during my freshman year in high school. The research would include reaching out to alumnae?s, teachers/professors, securing periodicals about instructions of higher learning and if possible visiting campuses. Also, I think the one of the most critical things to do is be familiar with what is taking place in regards to industries that are contracting in other to more educated decision on the desired area of study during college live.
