The University of Tennessee-Knoxville Top Questions

There is really nothing wrong at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. The only thing that many up-coming freshman and transfer students have a problem with is fitting in and finding that group of people to be with. Since UT is such a large University it is very possible to feel like a number, but by getting involved you can make the campus enviorment feel small. There are over 400 different organiztions on campus to get involed in including intermurals and Student Government Association.

Definitely the size of the classes is what I consider the worst things about my school. Most of my classes have 100-200 students in them and we miss out on the one on one with the teachers like we had in high school. I know college is supposed to be harder but if they want us to be successful in life then they need to help us succeed.

At UTK, it feels like the administration is way more concerned with money than education. We get tickets for everything here and it feels like everything costs ten times more than it should. A parking ticket will be address before a grade issue. Your car will be towed before you can meet with an advisor. The thing about it is we rarely see what the money goes towards. Sure, new buildings are being built but only several months (even years) after the original scheduled date.

The worst thing about UT is also one of the best- the size of the school. While it is extremely nice to have a more diverse and expansive university, the size is something that sometimes reduces you to just a number.

I believe the worst thing about my school is they do not offer much financial aid. The Tennessee Hope Scholarship is wonderful but there are still many other expenses. I only recieve 1500 a year where as I got full rides from other schools.

I cannot necessarily say that there is anything bad about my school. Yes, there are those who enjoy drinking and partying, but doesn't just about every college do that? In all honesty, I don't see anything that could be pin pointed out all on its own to be "the worst thing" about my school.

The current affairs that have taken place at the University of Tennessee have created some negative press for the school. The arrests of the athletes from both the basketball and football teams have created a bad reputation for UT. Also, our football coach, Lane Kiffin, left the school very recently and has created more negative publicity for the university. The situation is very embarrassing as a student because I do the best I can to represent my school in a positive light .

Sometimes, the general education classes are so big that you feel like the professor doesn't care about you individually. This can usually be alleviated by visiting office hours.

The worst thing about my school is the work load for some of the classes. There are teachers here who take it too far as to giving out work. They assign work as if that class is the only one we have to worry about. If you have more than one of these type of teachers then your work for the night can be quite high.

The worst thing about UT is their lack of finalcial help to out-of-state students and they are bad about getting back to students about whether or not they have recieved money. Most money goes to in-state students who are already attending at a lower cost. I think the school needs to be better about providing finacial assistance to all students.
