The stereotype about rich kids from the Northeast is completely inaccurate. There's a large population of people from the Northeast, but I've yet to meet anyone in my three years here who pays full tuition or can. And a recent study actually shows that nearly 30{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of our student body is from New Orleans, representing the largest regional representation among students, followed by all of the Northeast (which includes many states). Many students here party, however, we also get our work done. Most students here understand how to balance party life and academic life. Many students simply choose not to engage in drinking or any partying at all, and they have no trouble finding a group of friends who feels the same way. Lots of people think drugs are rampant here, but I've never seen anything serious before. I've heard about it, but it always seems like some sort of myth here.

There is a lot of money on this campus, but not every one comes from big money. A more accurate stereotype of Tulane student would be that we "work hard to party hard".
Molly
Although many students are wealthy and from the East Coast, the majority of students (no matter where they are from) are highly motivated people who are able to finish their work and have fun at the same time.
Natasha
Yes, we are a private school. Yes, students like to party. and Yes, we have high acceptance requirements. At Tulane, students learn how to work hard and play hard. With this amazingly small student/teacher ratio, it's obvious if you don't come to class prepared, or if you skip class entirely.
Ashley
Yes. That is honestly the best description. We're all very intelligent, yet we still honestly know how to have a great time.
No. Most Tulane kids are on scholarship.
Kendall
somewhat, there are definitely a lot of students whose family or name has gotten them everything, but there are others who have worked really hard to be here
Victoria
The drinking one is very accurate.
The rest have a fair amount of truth to them.
Sarah
There are a lot of rich, white, Jewish kids but that definitely doesn't represent everyone.
Jonathan
yeah, but in a good way
Andy
To a certain extent. I feel like the people who perpetuate the stereotypes stand out among others, so it looks like there are more of them than there really are. For example, a snobby New York girl who brags loudly in class about how much coke she did last night will grab a lot of attention, and people will remember her.
Rory
Well I find that Tulane students are usually some of the craziest, friendliest, most approachable people I've met. Some are stuck up assholes but they generally cluster together so don't bother the rest of us. However, its true. Tulane students do their fair share of coke and pretty much any other drug for that matter.
Sam
Yes and no. Yes, a large portion of the student body is well off (financially), and a large portion uses cocaine and other expensive drugs. But, no, they are not the "typical" student. With regards to drinking alcohol, yes, a very large portion of the student body drinks, but there are also groups that don't drink. The drinking/drug-using/spending daddy's money portion of the student body is just the loudest and most noticed---there is so much more than that at Tulane.
Alex
I believe that there is a group of people that fit this description, but there are many who do not. This negative stereotype is easily identified, therefor people use this one group to affirm these stereotypes, but the majority of Tulane students do not fit this description
Brian
Not particularly. There are a lot of interesting people that don't need to go out and get wasted nightly that are perfectly fine to hang out with.
Sandy
More or less... I guess.
