University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about University of Arkansas-Fort Smith? Why?

Nicholas

UAFS has extremely reasonable tuition, a nice environment and a great staff. However, it seems the university population is outgrowing the campus. Certain programs are being deprived of sufficient work spaces, such as the theatre department needing a new auditorium and the arts department being spread across five buildings. That said, the university recently put into motion a 20-year master plan to overhaul the campus for the new age, beginning with the arts (which is great news for a design student like myself).

The worst thing about UAFS is that sometimes the admissions councelors just blow you off, and dont even try to help you. I think that they should help you in what ever you need and help you as an individual, not just another student or number.

There are a lot of Non-Traditional Students on campus, which I think is wonderful. However, the school focuses more on them than the incoming freshman, which makes the freshman feel left out and like they don't belong. I feel that if the campus had more resources, they could appeal to not only the Non-Traditional Students, but also the incoming freshman. I believe that this is why the school does not retain students as well as they could.

Whitney

The worst thing about UAFS is that they spend money on stuff thats not needed.

Shawnee

I think the worst thing about my school is the fact that because we highly value our freedom of speech we can not kick out people who are intentionally trying to cause discourse in our school.

Brent

The worst thing about my school is the lack of financial aid available to students that is not based on parental income, GPA, or ACT scores.

Erik

The worst thing about this school is the administration of financial aid. You get different answers depending on who you speak with and they tend to want to find blame instead of solutions. To be certain, there are very, helpful financial aid counselors but for the most part, they are inconsistent.

Heather

UA Fort Smith has been growing very quickly, which is a great thing in many respects; however, they are really struggling to provide enough parking and living space on and near campus. It can be very frustrating to spend 30 minutes looking for a parking space.

Christopher

I consider the fact that UAFS has some professors in the science and math departments that do not teach on a level that college students can understand the worst aspect of this college. Most of the professors are fairly understanding of certaing academic issues and will work with you if at all possible. The fellow students are friendly and eager to lend a hand for the most part. The college is great despite the issue of having to take certain classes that are only taught by two or three professors and both have bad reviews by students.
