University of California-Riverside Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at University of California-Riverside accurate?

Jackie

I wouldn't say that our stereotype is accurate. Because UC Riverside is a newer UC and accepts the majority of applicants, many outsiders consider it a "backup UC" or a "last-choice" college. This is absolutely untrue. One of my best friends was accepted into UCLA, but chose UCR because of its stellar Creative Writing program. Another friend was accepted to NYU, but he chose to attend UCR because of our great financial aid. There are thousands of bright minds at UC Riverside, each one eager to learn and grow. Every major is challenging, and there are no "easy" courses. As for the students themselves, they all want to achieve their highest potential and strive to make these dreams a reality. My roommate and I are both double-majors, and we push ourselves harder every day. If you've ever heard anything negative about UCR, I can certainly tell you that it is untrue and the best way to experience this school is to attend it!

On and off, just like all school stereotypes. The reason they exist is because at least one person displayed the stereotype to someone.

Gabriel

Not at all. The stereotype that the students at UCR are not as smart or as capable as students at other universities are just not true. Like any other university there are students who don't put the time in and are unmotivated, that is true. UC Riverside is packed with students however who are just as smart, perform just as well, and very simply get the job done as well as anyone. Spending time with the campus community teaches that quickly.

Not at all, we are perceived as people who got accepted into a low UC its not L.A or Berkely and its like a reject school. A lot of people choice it for convenience of because of there major. I chose it because of my major and i loved the feel of the campus itself

That they go to UCR because they got rejected from other UC campuses? (70{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} YES) That it is a party school? (All other campuses party equally) That they are boring? (NO, most students here are interesting and outgoing)

Jay

To an extent, but not at all. UCR probably wasn't most students' first-choice, but it's affordable, is a UC, and is VERY up and coming.
