What sets the University of California, Riverside apart from the other UC's is its diversity. There is no stereotypical student at this university because it is one of the leading campuses in the nation when it comes to diversity. Every type of personality can be found at UCR. There are fraternity students, brainiacs, athletes, fashionistas, artists and most noticeably, your average, down to earth, friend. If a stereotype must be chosen, I would have to choose simply that, because the students at UCR are incredibly compassionate, understanding, and friendly.

Because Riverside has 8 other UC schools in California to compete with, there has to be stereotypes of each school, and for Riverside I most often hear: "All they do is party." While I do see that the college kids know how to have fun socially, not all of us party! There are frat parties, rush parties, and kickbacks here and there, but there is a clear distinction of people who do like to party, those who are well-balanced, and those who simply do not. There are some really good students here who take leadership positions and get those straight A's but are often hidden due to Riverside's reputation. While this stereotype is partially accurate, I would say there is a very good balance of good students as well.

That they went here because they got rejected from other UC campuses. It's partially true but there are several capable students here that chose Riverside for commuting reasons as well as the scholarships they offer to students with potential.

UC Riverside is infamous for being know as the home of the "UC Rejects," Prospective undergraduate students have the notion that UCR students are unknowledgeable and ill-prepared for the UC system. The fact of the matter is that this is a complete fallacy. UC Riverside is full of the nation's brightest and most capable individuals. Oftentimes UCR gets a bad rap, but that negative repuation is neither warranted nor true. UCR is full of smart and highly educated individuals who will go on to graduate and make a difference in their communities.

I feel like this couldn't be LESS true. Many of the students here work just as hard and harder as the students on other UC campuses. People greatly under estimate the offerings of UCR. We have students of all shapes and sizes, ethnicities and backgrounds. No matter what university you attend, your experience is what you make it. I couldn't be more proud to be a highlander.

The stereotype at our school is that students are not all that smart. However, I have found that to be the total opposite!

The stereotype of UCR students are that (most of )the students are failures who couldn't get into higher ranked UCs such as san diego or los angeles. This is not true because a lot of us picked UCR for location convenience, major compatability, scholarships/grants, family etc.

UC Rejects. Because everyone that decided to go the UCR got rejected from every other school. Which is somewhat true in my case haha. The stereotype is somewhat accurate but not entirely. I've met people that got accepted into top tier schools like UCLA, Berkeley, and Stanford(rare). But due to financial struggles or residence issues, they decided to go here. I mean, there are a LOT of brilliant people at this school. The underlying meaning behind the stereotype isn't true.

As a high school student, many seniors of our graduating class wanted to get into top-tier universities such as UC Berkeley and UCLA. UCR was always viewed as the “dumb school” by most high school students and this created a negative stereotype for our campus. There was this constant perception surrounding my high school that UCR students were forced to attend UCR because they didn’t get accepted elsewhere. Hence, the name “UC Rejects” was born.
In some sense, this is true because I for one didn’t get accepted into any UC besides UCR. So I guess it’s true that I was “forced” to attend UCR. However, many students at our campus chose to attend UCR because of their accessibility of financial aid. UCR students receive the highest amount of financial aid compared any other UC campus. The demographic of our school consists of the most low-income students. And our return to aid for fees and tuition is at 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. Other UC campuses portion only 20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of their fees for financial aid. Therefore, there is a larger pool of money for financial compensation that our university can grant. From my experiences of talking to students on our campus, many that got accepted into well-known universities such UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSB, UCSD, etc., made the decision to attend UCR because of the amount of financial grant the school offered. The UC Rejects stereotype is accurate to a certain degree, but people who hold that perception don’t realize how great UCR actually is.
