Excessive emphasis of the student body on drugs and alcohol. Also, intertial attitudes towards what is happening on campus. The focus as to what people want to do with their lives could definitely be stronger.

If you are not a member of the honors program, it can be difficult to get all of the classes you need for the coming quarter. There are simply too many people who want to get in to the lower division major or pre-major requirements. However, I hear that as you progress to upper division, class size and difficulty of obtaining classes becomes less of an issue.

There is to much drinking outside the school from the greek life groups. It doesn't really appeal to me much! The financial aid office is at times helpful but not that much!

The worst thing about my school is the close proximity to the beach. There is always temptation to go tanning, surfing, or playing volleyball at the beach instead of actually doing homework. It takes a lot of self motivation to be a good student at this school.
Sierra
The price of housing. It's really expensive to live in the dorms and live in Isla Vista after your freshman year.
Kevin
Reputation as a party school makes people look down upon it, even though it is really accademic
Bianca
The worst ting about my school is the budget cuts that are happening right now. Also the chancellor did not let students and grad students know about voting for financial aid and the budget cuts.
Megan
Big social life, less serious dating
Natalie
The worst thing about my school is that it is more research based and doesn't offer a lot of practical majors, such as business.
Omer
The partying around here can be a bit much, though students seem to find a balance and get their work done and get good grades. Partying can be an annoyance because most students live in a small community adjacent to campus (Isla Vista).
Lina
There's a lot of partying!
I don't mind it so much, but sometimes students shouldn't drink as much as they do.
Katherine
The worst thing about my school is I'm from a middle class family and unable to receive financial aid. Since I'm an out of state student that means my parents pay about 42k a year for me to go to a really good school, but its not a great school academically. The alumni needs to be supportive. We could use a foot ball team and some more parking. People like living off campus but it is REALLY expensive. Rent for sharing a room is usually between 600-700 a month excluding utilities.

People are a little supperfucial, you just have to look through those people and you will find cool people
Syna
The Fraternaties and the Sororities. They fit a very stereotypical role and the worst people I have met have been members of the Greek system.
beatrice
students taking unprescribe drugs to study better.

Huge lectures make it hard to learn sometimes. I had an 8:00am biology class I could hardly stay awake during and there were about 800 people in it. I could hardly hear or see the professors. I also dislike the surrounding community Isla Vista, mainly because sometimes I have classes in IV and driving around there is horrible; too many bicyclists that don't share the road. I also don't like the registering for classes procedure; it feels very competetive at times.
Andra
The drinking is extremely popular, there are not very many extracurricular activities besides that.
Monica
The party scene can be very intense at our school.
Sara
UCSB, although really cleaning up its reputation in recent years, is definitely known as a party school. This didn't detract from my experience, but if you aren't interested in a relaxed environment, then this school isn't for you. I'd say the biggest downfall of the school is that it isn't very racially diverse, and the students are rather cookie-cutter and superficial. It's more difficult here to make lasting friends and to network.
