This university has a rare program in architecture that provides a straight route for a Master of Architecture Degree in 5 years. It also requires two co-op job placements for 3 months minimum each that provide valuble real-world work experience. Additionally, it has two solid study abroad opportunities in either Poland or Italy. Most other architectural schools are 4 years for undergrad and an additional 2-3 year masters degree. Co-ops are optional, and often not undertaken until the bachelors has been received.

The Univeristy of Detroit Mercy is a private college so classes are small and that means teachers can spend more individual time with students. All the teachers know each students name by the second class and they all work in the field of the classes that they teach.
