Sarah
Illinois is a very difficult school and therefore you cannot enjoy the college experience outside the academic arena.
Stephanie
We are widely known as a campus where students drink heavily. This rumor has spread mostly due to "Un-official St. Patrick's Day" which occurs every year before Spring Break.
Sarah
That they're all engineer students from the Chicago suburbs. That they're all drunk, partiers and fraternity/sorority members.
Ashley
Everyone is in the Greek system or you have to be in the Greek system to enjoy school, everyone is from the suburbs, etc.
Tate
No idea, I guess we're less laid back than west coasters. Other than that I can't think of any real stereotypes off hand.
Sarah
They all love U of I and always wear U of I apparel.
Jennifer
All Illinois students are either hicks from rural Illinois or from Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Engineering kids are usually socially awkward, nerdy, and often foreign. Also, all kids here are preppy and go Greek.
Alex
That they are from small towns or the suburbs
Alex
On one hand, I've heard that Illinois can be somewhat of a "party" school, and on the other, I've known Illinois to be a great educational institute.
Sally
The vast majority of the students are from the Chicago suburbs.
Katie
Large base from Illinois, overall the campus is in very good shape, smart students, awesome Unofficial St. Patricks day.
Kellie
They're all from Chicago
Timothy
Most everyone is from the chicagoland area.
Jim
That they are stuck up frat boys who only care about themselves. That they are rude and ridiculous in public places. That they treat women like shit and are the ultimate alpha males. That they dress up in expensive clothes or are in the weight room hours upon hours a day. All they care about is they have as much sex as possible with as many girls as possible. Finally, that all they do is get drunk and skip classes.
Anne
I think people who are from out of state or are from Illinois and end up going out of state think U. of I students are just kids who couldn't go anywhere else. Like I didn't get in NYU and had to resort to in-state.
I also think many people simply see Illinois as a college that is known for its engineers alone.
And of course being a big party school
Catherine
A lot of people think that the campus is overrun by either engineers or farmers. Also that we live in a cornfield.
Andy
Well I wouldn't say that there is steretypes on Illinois students in general, more like stereotypes on "minorities." Things such as "Tacos & Tequlila" are occurring on campus. Many of Illinois' ethnic orgs go unnoticed on campus as well. We have houses such as La Casa, but I feel as though we have it just so that the school can say "we gave them something."
Lane
Their are many stereotypes such as everyone who goes to U of I is racist cause of the chief controversy and that all of the campus is hardcore drinkers and partiers.
