The naked truth is that UMaine could serve to have more diversity, both with race, religion and sexual orientation.

The University of Maine has a tremendous range of majors and minors compared to other schools, covering a wide range of interests. The campus is beautiful and great for nature / outdoors lovers, and the sports department is the best in the state. From a financial perspective, it's also much less expensive than other schools, especially when considering the instate tuition for Mainers.

The UMaine campus is much smaller compared to other schools I visited. This may be a personal consideration, but school size is very important to note when looking for the right school. For me, a smaller (but not too small!) school was what I wanted. Its refreshing to see the same faces around campus. Another importnat factor of attending a smaller school is having a close relationship with professors. Its very easy to talk to a professor after class when the classes are smaller. Its also eaiser to participate in active learning.

For me, the most unique part of this school was its large animal experience. I am a pre-vet major that is looking at a career in large animal medicine. This school offers large animal management and has given me the experience i wanted in order to choose the career i wanted.

This school offers a lot to students to help them succeed, there are many opprotunities that are free offered to students such as the tutor program. We also have tons of different clubs and activities you can do, and if there isn't one for what you want to do you can create one! Campus is pretty big, but that's becasue there is so much to offer.

the location is beautiful.

A lot of my high school friends went here, so i did not lose contact with them

I enjoy the Maine atmosphere. The campus is beautiful and everything is right there.
Barbara
It's location: it has the best library in the state and is convenient to the recreational national parks ie. Acadia National Park.

The University of Maine is a big campus with a small campus feeling. People are humble and considerate. It is a campus that is academically focused and driven, but dedicates time for other things. There is always a variety of things to do without going ver far too!
Daryl
We have a very beautiful campus, it looks great when you arrive in the fall and it looks awesome when it is covered in snow also. The best part about the campus is the "Mall" in front of the library where everyone studies or throws around a frisbee in front of the library. The engineering students blend together very well and collaborate on certain projects or assignments to combine knowledge and teach each other how to do certain aspects of the material that the teacher couldn't provide in a 50 minute class.
Jonathan
Cold weather, Mainers, hockey is the big sport, not much do do outside of campus

UMaine is located in a small town that probably wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the University. Most of the town is made up from the campus. Mostly all of Orono's residents are college students. It's a classic "college town". When looking at other schools, I found little that they had to offer compared to UMO. I'm a nursing major and this program is incredibly prestigous. The NCLEX exam passing rate at UMaine is second statewide, and it's also considered the most challenging statewide. This is the primary reason I chose UMaine.

The school is not very diverse but it hosts a large amount of ethnic activities, groups, and functions.
Erik
This was the only school I considered. It is unique because it has a very strong community base. The people you live with are almost your family. It has a very beautiful campus that is somewhat spread out, this lets it seem more rural.
Lyla
It is big enough to be exciting and diverse, yet small enough to be inviting and friendly.

All the other schools I considered were out of state. I'm happy that I decided to stay in the state of which I'm a resident. My school is big, which in my opinion is a great quality. Some of the other schools I applied to were smaller more private schools.
