University of Maine Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at University of Maine accurate?

Abigail

No, not completely a lot of people are from Maine, but there are people from other states and countries.

Derek

Like most stereotypes there are certainly some students that fit that description but it certainly does not paint the whole picture or even a large portion of the UMaine student body. There is a diverse range of the types of students that matriculate at UMaine.

This school is not more party oriented than others. Obviously it's a college campus, so if you want to find a party you can. Personally, I don't party regularly and didn't at all in first few years at school. There is so much going on at Umaine, so many enriching academic experiences, and so many opportunities to volunteer that I find my life is not at all focused on partying.

Alex

Yes

Mary

The friendly part definitly. There are many different types of people, but it seems for the most part people are very down to earth and casual.

Katie

Mainers are friendly, laid back, and always hold the door a person behind them or in front. We do like the outdoors, but only because we have so much of it that is easily accessible. We have running water and Bangor is right nearby with shops, restaurants and many other various activities. And Canada is just a drive away for an escape or mini-vacation. Maine really is the way life should be- like it says on the sign when you first enter our state.

Alex

Yes and No. UMaine students do keep to themselves, but I have found a lot of really great people here. Also, many of my friends are out-of-staters.

Kristen

No. Many students are, but UMaine is also home to students from throughout the United States and the world.
