At the University of Maryland, learning extends beyond the classroom. By walking on campus the average student experiences new cultures everyday, thus enabling the ability to learn and grow in indelible ways. The amount of extra curricular activities is so extensive, I often find myself overwhelmed with possibility. In addition, the type of student that Maryland attracts makes it the perfect school. I have made the ‘lifetime-best friends’ I had been searching for throughout my adolescence. These best friends along with the foundations of academics will become the structure to lead me in whichever path I choose after graduation.

I mainly chose this school because of location and in state tuition. However, this university has offered much education, chances to make many friends, an opportunity to be very active within the campus community, and a great overall experience.

Although University of Maryland is a larger school it tries it best to make sure that students are more than just a number. Often times at larger schools students feel like their teachers do not know them personally do to class sizes but I found this to be untrue. Most if not all of my teachers made it their business to learn all of their students names. That helps alot it makes you feel important.

Compared to the other schools I considered, my school has a long history with buildings still standing from years ago.

The University of Maryland is truly every student's school. There is a place for jocks, hippies, stoners, and everything in-between. What differentiates College Park from any other college town I've seen is its ability to integrate the diverse students who live there. UMD is a place where students live symbiotically, and you can easily become best friends with the girl in your English 101 class who has virtually nothing in common with you. The environment at my school is one where you can learn about yourself simply by enjoying the company of others.

The University of Maryland offers a unique set of majors and minors. I am majoring in early childhood education and UMD's education program is outstanding and one of the best Maryland has to offer. Another reason I am choosing UMD is for their dance program. I have many friends whom have graduated or are attending UMD and it has been typical for me to hear how fun and exceptional these dance classes are. From my studies of Howard Gardners Multiple Intelligences I think it is important and fun to have physical activity and dance paired with classroom learning.

The University of Maryland is special in its diversity. It is not only about the race and cultural backgrounds of the students that attend it, but it has much to do with the celebration of diversity within and outside of the classrooms. As with the numerous colleges and majors within the university, there is something for everybody at the University of Maryland. Although it is a large university, students are encouraged to explore who they really are and what their interests are, and to find their "niche." I have definitely found my niche at the University of Maryland.

My school is truly diverse, not just in numbers but in our mindset. We all possess an open mindedness to new experiences and fresh perspectives. While my university does have a large student body, classroom sizes are small and intimate. The classroom environment allows for an equal exchange of knowledge and creative thought between professors and students. The pulse that maintains my campus?s heart beat is school spirit. And it is with this rhythmic pulse we Terrapins proudly chant, FEAR THE TURTLE.

My school is considered a big school, however, it does not feel that big to me. The school feels like a community where everyone respects each other and where everyone is willing to help each other whether the help be with schoolwork or by giving advice. In this community, no one is ignored or treated lesser than anyone else. I transferred to my school as a sophmore and I felt just as welcomed had I been a freshman entering the college for the first time.

Compared to the other schools that I considered, UMD's most admiring quality was its access to Washington D.C. It is a quick metro ride to get into the city, which opens up many opportunities for students; such as internships, jobs, and social activities.

UMD is an amazing and beautiful college the provides an excellent education, numerous sporting events, and a wide variety of organizations and social activities.

The school is very diverse and original. Most students have a welcoming attitude towards others and are always willing to discover new things and cultural beliefs practiced by other individuals

The proximity to Washington D.C makes for an amazing mixture of backgrounds, races and income levels. There are groups here but due to the odd 'metropolitan area', mixing is bound to happen - and it does! The unique character is made from the odd jumble living in a densely urban area.

The campus is all located together, almost like a town.

There isn't a typical sort of student that attends UMD, while small versions of cliques do exist, the people who attend Maryland are extremely open and multi-faceted, with varying and engaging interests and spirit.

The extreme school spirit is remarkable. Everyone at the University of Maryland is proud to be a Terp. It's not unusual to see painted faces and chests at every sports event or Terrapin t-shirts in every classroom. I've been approached by friendly Alumni when I go to Washington DC who see me wearing UMD merchandise and want to talk about the school.

The University Of Maryland is uniquely diverse. There are so many students from different races, backgrounds, lifestyles, and religions. My school also has so many ways for its students to become involved in their community and around campus. There is truly a place for everyone to fit in, its a very welcoming and beautiful campus. There are offices such as the OMSE office for Multi-Ethnic Students to receive tutoring and mentoring. The University of Maryland is an incredible University for you to enrich your mind.

University of Maryland is known for having a very diverse atmosphere and there is a club that satisfies just about anything that you would like to do. There is no reason you should not find something of you interests at this university. The teachers come from different backgrounds and there is a great variety in teaching methods and styles.

It is extremely diverse and presents a multitude of persepctives. This allows for a cross-cultural experience that cannot be found in more conservative and less diverse environments. There's something for everyone to do and always more for those who are relatively active to experience.
