UM has a gorgeous campus in terms of the canals, lake, and landscaping. However, the buildings aren't exactly made of "rustic" brick. On a good day, the combination of good weather and pretty landscaping leads to many students doing homework on the Green. The Green is a large section of grass in front of the library where you can find students doing homework, hanging out with friends or enjoying a Starbucks

People say that UM looks like a country club. I can see how people think that because the campus does have a well maintained landscape with ample palms, shrubs and flowers. However, with my interest in architecture, I have to say that the buildings are horrific, yet are a suburb example of post-WWII industrial style. I wish the school would have been build in the initial Spanish-Mediterranean style! Also, the school is under construction, or rather waiting to be under construction. Old apartments and the Rathskeller were knocked down to make way for newer apartments and a new student center, only they aren't being built. The buildings were knocked down, the land leveled and made grassy. I think I see a tree starting to grow where that new building should be...

The University of Miami has the excitement of a big city but with the intimate atmosphere and individual academic attention of a small school.
