We do not have more gay people here. We have just as many gay people as any other University or College. THE DIFFERENCE: People are more comfortable "coming out" and being out here. They can hold hands, kiss, and go on dates with their partners more comfortably than on any other campus in North Carolina. It's great! There are tons of die-hard basketball fans, but I'm not one of them. I know plenty of friends who aren't fans either.

On the whole, these stereotypes do seem to reflect the general group of UNC students, but UNC has thousands of students per class and there will always be differences.

In terms of the school stereotype, I'd say its pretty accurate. The stereotype regarding students is not accurate at all, the student body is large, diverse, and down to earth.

Well, most students I know here do not think they are better than other colleges, we just have certain schools we don't like. It is true about basketball, though. We have other awesome sports teams too, such as soccer and field hockey.

The make up of the student body is far more diverse than what first meets the eye. There are many students from all different racial, ethnic, religious backgrounds and you can easily find a group/club that matches up with your personal unique identity. The greek community may seem to stand out at first but hardly is a major part of the University's social scene. Within that group it is very homogeneous, but outside it is very diverse. The students are very smart and do so on their own without really talking about it. Work hard, play hard is very much the motto.

The entire student body isn't obsessed with our mens basketball program, but a good portion of it is (including me)! People here have a lot of school pride and I think it sometimes unintentionally comes off as arrogance, which results in these stereotypes.

No, many students are actually quite conservative and devoutly religious. However, there is little mixing between black and white students.

They're not true of everyone. UNC and Chapel Hill in general is viewed with suspicion by a lot of the rest of our (very red) state because it is pretty politically liberal and gay-friendly. Most people are pretty left leaning but won't get in your face too much about it. People do smoke pot but not that much and certainly not all the time - certainly no more or less than any other school. As for the latter, that one is absolutely true of probably 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the Greek community and a lot of the alumni.
