The stereotype I hear the most is that UNC students and alum are arrogant, snotty rich people. Members in greek organizations also get a bad repuation of being especially stuck up and alcoholics.

Among North Carolinians we have a reputation for being really smart and a bit preppy, whereas NCSTATE students are seen as more salt-of-the-earth Carolinians. That's not really a negative stereotype for us I don't think, but it colors how people in North Carolina approach you when you say your from UNC.

It can be seen as a very homogeneous student body: white, preppy, well-off, southern, majority being from Charlotte and Raleigh. It is known as the best of the UNC schools so the students are smart, very competitive, and very much follow the "work hard, play hard" philosophy.

Depending on who you ask, you'll either hear that we're all left-wing communist hippies who will corrupt your innocent kid and send her home a pot smoking pagan lesbian who always votes straight-ticket for Democrats.
The opposite extreme you'll hear is that we're a "wine and cheese" crowd. Everyone's from Charlotte or Raleigh and has belonged to a country club since birth.
