We're liberal, we're nonconformists. We're all crazy feminists. Our school was once all girls. We do a lot of drugs.

We're all tree hugging hippies, ultra-liberal, rich and disconnected from the community.

I don't really know how other people would stereotype students at Vassar, but if I had to give a word I would say nerdy hipsters.

Vassar students are stereotyped as liberal, environmentalist, off-beat, friendly, passionate, and self-motivated. There are plenty of hipsters.

You name a stereotype, you can probably apply it to somebody here: Gay, Indie Hipster, Hippie, Activist, Feminist, Artist, Country Club Set, etc. Vassar's also known to be a place for the cynical, the self-righteous, the self-absorbed, the radical, and the overachiever who didn't get into his Ivies.

They're crazy liberals, dirty hippies, wildly homosexual, and so on.

Most people think that Vassar students are pot-smoking hippies majoring in Anthropology. I also frequently get asked if any boys attend my school, and then if any straight boys attend my school. We're also considered to be very environmentally conscious and political liberal.

Before coming to Vassar, people told me with confidence that all the men are gay and everyone's a vegan hipster. I was also told that everyone's liberal, queer/gender-studies-minded, and "artsy."
