Virginia Commonwealth University Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about Virginia Commonwealth University?

Alexis

The most frustrating thing about my school would be the lack of more free school activities during the weekend. As a college freshman without a car, I do not have the luxury of traveling to my home during the weekends like most upperclassmen, so having more activities on campus throughout the weekend would help transitioning freshmen to feel more included and less bored while on campus during the weekend.

Victoria

The school is set up in a city, so it's a little harder to find your way around than it would be on a traditional college campus.

Ashley

I have had trouble with advising at my school. I have previously been placed in classes that were not required and not relevant to my major.

Kristina

One of the most frustrating things about my school is advising. I am a Resident Assistant in one of the resident halls and some residents have told me what their class advisors have told them to sign up. Some of the classes are unnecessary and I feel that they are making the students take useless classes so they can stay longer at the university to pay more money. The advisors also do not plan ahead for the next four years which I feel they should do.

The most frustrating thing about Virginia Commonwealth University is having to chose a major. VCU offers such a wide range of options to its 31,000 students. There are 63 undergraduate programs from which to choose. Sixty-three! The VCU faculty represents some of the best and brightest minds in the world. It is frustrating to have to concentrate on one area when there are so many excellent options to study.

Madhavi

One of the most frustrating aspects about Virginia Commonwealth University is the foods that are served at dining courts. There is not a big variety of places for students to use their swipes or dining dollars at. Because of this, I find myself eating from the same place and the same types of food. Since I have wanted to lose some weight and eat healthy, I've found it very hard to find variety in healthy foods. I hope VCU opens up more food courts for students in the near future.

Paris

The most frustrating thing about VCU is the financial aid/accounting department. Myself, as well as many of my peers, have encountered issues with receiving money from these departments. The delays in receiving funds from the schools cause many students to purchase their books too late which then affects their performance in class.

Jazmyn

I would have to say that the most frustrating aspect of Virginia Commonwealth University would have to be one of two things: how far my classes are from one another, or how I have to stay on the MCV campus.

Vu

The most Frustrating thing about my school has to be the traffic. I commute back and forth from school and when things get cluttered, I either end up missing my class or getting too fustrated to attend class. But it's not just fustrating for the students, teachers who have to travel long distances end up canceling classes at times due to traffic issues. And with the large amount of students in my school, parking is a big factor as well. Parking passes are almost a must to attend this college.

The most frustrating thing about Virginia Commonwealth University is that if you are in need of any kind of math courses that start with pre-Calculus and forward, they are almost impossible to register for because so many people need these classes. If you happen to register in enough time, then you are lucky; but if not, then you have to apply for an override and hope to get a space, or wait for someone to drop the class. It's frustrating for the science majors though.
