Washington State University Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at Washington State University accurate?

Krista

It's no more of a party school than any other university, it's really up to how you want to spend your time. There are actually a lot more stores and things to do in Pullman than I originally thought when I came here, and Moscow isn't that far to drive, and there's more stuff to do there too. It's not really just an agriculture school anymore, I think I know more people coming here for engineering or something to do with business than animal science or agriculture students.

Justin

Yeah and we love it that way. It makes it intimidating for other teams to come play in Pullman and there is ALOT of school spirit. Parties are a blast here, but if you are not into that whole thing than there is plenty other stuff to do. But you should try and experience it at least once.

Katie

NO, seriously though my experience in UW greek row were that I felt unsafe and overwhelmed. In Pullman everything is smaller, more safe and more friendly. Sure any campus has its problems but WSU Pullman is a secret we don't getting out the wrong people. We're a tight knit little oasis over here in the wheat and we're doing a lot of great things, even if we don't brag about them all the time.

annette

For some yes and for some no

Gene

Not really. Yes, WSU, is a "party" school, but which college isn't? And the party scene at WSU has really been tamed in the last 10 years or so. As for academics, it's actually becoming a lot tougher to get into and the education you receive here can be very beneficial to you.

THe stereotypes are a little extreme, however, there is some truth in them.

Daniel

To some existent these stereotypes are true, a great deal of students apply to UW as first choice hoping to be involved in a more competitive school that borders a major city that being of course Seattle. But there are also a large number of students who specifically set WSU as their number one choice in hopes of getting away from family and other influences to establish or define them self out in this remoter location. People do party a lot hear. I heard from one statistic that Dismores, our local grocery store, sells 2{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of Busch Beer?s total sales. Any night during the week it is not uncommon for people to through house partiers, or file into the local clubs. Overall regardless of the amounts of alcohol consumed the students of WSU manage to keep their grades up.

Brittany

No way is that stereotype accurate. True students like to party but how is that different from any other college campus? The students here do care about their schooling and its wrong for someone to say otherwise. Partying is just a way to relax and get away from the stress that comes with college.

Dylan

That stereotype isn't accurate on campus. Students on campus tend to keep to themselves and a few friends. The administration is cracking down on drinking, in part of its attempts to get WSU into some group of colleges (I forget the name). Alums and current students are not at all pleased with these changes.

sam

Sometimes, but I wish it were a little more true.
