I love that Wesleyan is so anti-heteronormative. I really do. And I've learned so much about the spectrum of sexualities and gender continuum. But as someone who falls on the heterosexual end of the continuum, Wesleyan "dating" scene can be frustrating. If you can find a straight man, he's usually not the type to take you on actual dates. If you're looking for traditional, I wouldn't come here.

While tries to portray its self as a liberal extremist progressive school. To some extent this is true. But, during my year here I found that the radical, daring, exciting political/ social involvement which Wes boasted in the past has died down. Now Wes seems to be filled with an apathetic student body. Most students are more interested in video games or NFL stats, than the war in Iraq or helping the poor.
Also, there is continual conflict between Middletown residents and Wesleyan Students. It is not uncommon for fights to occur between the two.

I started a Homebrewing Club and got a bunch of money from the school. Some people will tell you that the administration is really lame (and they have a point - sometimes it feels like the new president, Michael Roth, is trying to take the weirdness out of Wesleyan), but the fact that I got money for this club is a strong argument in their favor. If you consider yourself a connoisseur of fine beer, Wesleyan is the place to be.

Come to Wes! We love everyone!

Although my experience at Wesleyan has not been stellar, at least it's helped me to really become someone that I'm proud of. They exposed me to everything I'm not, and have made me comfortable standing up for my own beliefs (although they tend to be contra-Wesleyan fueled). In retrospect, I wish I had gone to a larger school that offered a wider range of courses with a wider range of diversity.
Evan
Be careful of the political mindset at Wesleyan.

Although Wesleyan is the best liberal arts situation I can imagine, I still advocate that, unless you are getting SUBSTANTIAL financial aid, you should take the 160,000-170,000 and not go to college, or at least, not anytime soon. I took two of six years off from high school graduation to college graduation, and I learned exponentially more, spending exponentially less.

You should watch the movie PCU before coming...the first week at the tech can be a shock with most people wanting to transfer...but the feeling passes and wes becomes great

Wes is AMAZING! If you're a kind, cool, smart person who likes fun, then Wes is the place for you.

Ok, here's the scoop. Wesleyan is pretty cool and really annoying. There are some great people who stay great, and there are some great people who you later find out are just social ladder climbers and are hoping your dad invented the cell phone or something. The profs, like many students, are brilliant idiots. Well, some of the profs are amazing, and there's a good chance you'll form a lasting bond with at least one over your four years. The students have too much money and love the "Wesleyan bubble" too much, but those who want to leave it can do so on their own steam. The University costs way too much, but the financial aid system is pretty good, and apparently a Wesleyan degree is still worth something to employers. Wesleyan can be a great four- (or five-) year vacation and it can be a place where you challenge the shit out of yourself. I suppose it's all relative. So, should you go to Wes? Yeah, I guess so. Should you go to Wes instead of Brown or Tufts or Skidmore or Vassar? Geez, I don't know, you should go wherever you get the biggest scholarship. Bummed you didn't get into Wes? Odds are it won't matter too much.
If I could do it all again, I would have gone to school in Australia or New Zealand or the UK where the education is just as good and way cheaper. But I wouldn't say I've regretted Wes.

Wesleyan's the shit!! Come visit!!

Middletown is not exactly the best place to be, but it is so close to other major cities.

Applying to Wesleyan was honestly the best decision I've ever made. Apparently you either love or hate Wes, and I'd say 99{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the time is all love.

Guys, you can scale down these questions a bit I think. I'm guessing you're just trying to get the ball rolling with all of those questions, but it comes off as though you're asking about all of them. Maybe just say something below the headings that's like "some things you could talk about:" or "some ideas:" or whatever. I know you're trying to be fun and light but if someone skips the instructions (I did. I expect the instructions to be "answer the questions.") then it's like running into a brick wall of questiondom.
I still loves you though.

I thought there'd be more drug use on campus, but it's pretty low key. There's a bust every so often when people are careless.
Ryan
I bet a lot of my fellow students are annoyed that you only gave two options for gender while taking this survey.
Sarah
I chose Wesleyan because no current students had anything bad to say about it. Now, having graduated, I am inclined to agree. While it is not a perfect place, it is full of happy, satisfied people who generally really like each other and the school that they attend. As an alumni living in another city, I've met a good number of other recent graduates that I didn't know at Wesleyan, but have gotten along with immediately.
