What is the stereotype of students at West Virginia University? Is this stereotype accurate?

WVU is definitely thought to be the "party school." It does live up to the hype in some cases. I have many friends that are business, political science, and education majors that party Thursday-Sunday every weekend. However, I'm an engineering major. I find plenty to do without partying. Not many engineering, math, or physics majors go out more than one or twice a month. The school is really good about offering options for those who don't want to be a part of the party scene. One such example is "Up All Night". This program takes place in the Mountainlair Thursday-Saturday nights. The school feeds you for free (nachos, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. and then breakfast after midnight), shows at least three movies getting ready to go to DVD in the "Gluck Theater", offers "AstroBowling", and one other extremely fun activity (some examples are make your own flip-flops, laser tag, and gaming tournaments).

West Virginia University is known for partying and drinking. As well, for the downtown night club scene. This is an accurate depiction of WVU, however, there is more to the university. WVU is a large university with a lot to offer; many students balance a studious and social life well.

West Virginia University is a very diverse university. Like any university, there are many people and therefore, many different types of people. a stereotype is something that is in the eye of beholder. Only a person can stereotype someone else. At WVU, there are the athletes, who get special treatment like any other university, followed by the kids in frats and sororities, and so on. Typically however, most people are open to making new friends and meeting new people.
