Describe the students at Western Washington University.

Julia

Students at WWU are very diverse and very unique. There are about 4 big christian fellowships on campus who are very present. Most students are very outdoorsy and love to go on weekend trips up to the Cascade Mountains or to the San Juan Islands. Bellingham is the perfect location for any sort of outdoor activity. Students typically wear flannels on the daily and Birkenstocks or Chacos. Formal dances/attire is very rare which might be due to the fact that Western doesn't have any sororities or fraternities. Students vote every year on if we would like to bring them back, but it is always turned down.

Carolyn

They are nice individuals but most lack a deep sense of motivaiton.

Wayne

They mind their own business, talk only with friends, and remain silent if they don't know anyone.

Jocelyn

My classmates have a very defined sense of themselves and of their personal style. Many of my peers, though definitely not all, are outdoorsy and extremely environmentally conscious and friendly and can be seen with a mason jar in tow. The students at Western are for the most part very friendly and hold doors for others (which I suppose it how I measure if someone is polite or not) and are approachable.

Brittany

Western students are enviromentally friendly.

Clara

Incredibly dedicated and hardworking people who know how to have fun and make beautiful music that touches the lives of all around them who have the opportunity to experience it.

50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} partiers, 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} crazy study-aholics. There's very little middle ground; you either party on the weekends or you stay in and study.

Emily

A fun-loving person who doesn't mind a bit of rain while firguring out what they're goals are in life.

Robin

Classmates were open-minded, friendly and ready to learn.

Paris

My classmates are very smart, but most of them are still locked in a high school mentality, which is something that will change, and they will change with it, and when they do, they will really be amazing classmates.

Cassidy

Diverse

Emily

I would describe my classmates for the most part as hippies because most everyone around me is alwasy looking to save energy and reduce their consumption of non-recyclable items.

Megan

Western's students are very diverse. You can find a group supporting just about any idea or belief, making it very easy to find someone to connect with and befriend. Most of the students are from the Seattle area, however, there are many students that are from all over the country as well as the world.

Blair

My classmates are a diverse group of interesting and engaging individuals.

Kay

My classmates are extremely smart and helpful.

Justine

Western students tend to be friendly, enthusiastic, and active.

Catherine

There are many prominent clubs on campus such as LGBT, religious clubs, and even running club! At the beginning of every school year, there is a huge info fair in red square. During my freshman year, I found out that Western had a running club and joined it! I met awesome people and had the chance to learn about Bellingham outside of campus.

Sarah

At Western, we are very open and everyone is welcome here. I do not think a student here ever feels out of place because people are just so welcoming and friendly. If there were four tables at the dining hall, all of those tables would be mixed with a variety of students, no stereotypes or anything. You just meet a lot of different people and gain friends from a ton of different backrounds.

Amanda

I think that Western has a pretty diverse group of students. I believe this shows through the clubs that we have at Western. We have clubs for LGBT students, clubs for students of diverse races, and religious clubs. Many of them commonly have booths around red square or vendor's row to provide information to other Western students and promote awareness of their groups. I think that Western is a very accepting place and pretty much every student would fit in here - that's one reason I love this school so much! Students wear a lot of different types of clothing to class. Overall, I would say the most common way of dressing is the "hipster/indie/bohemian/hippie" style of dress. Lot's of big, loose sweaters, leggings, flannels, beanies, dresses, and TOMs. It would probably be safe to say that at least 75{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the school's population owns a pair of TOMs :) Students at Western are very into both the style of TOMs and the moral reasoning behind them (with every pair you buy, another pair is donated to a child in need). However, a large portion of students go to school in just sweats or yoga pants as well. It's pretty much up to you! I've never seen anyone judged on their style of clothing, and we have many students who dress very eclectically!

Vivian

come from a variety of backgrounds: racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, etc. It's a very diverse school filled with people. There's always a chance to meet people with the Associated Students, a hub that consists of the student government and student-run clubs. It's easy to meet people at school and develop lifelong friendships, should you pursue them here.
