Law firm scholarships help to offset the cost of college or law school. They are available from large and small law firms and in many niche fields. Business law, criminal law, immigration and tax law are a few examples.
These vary as some law firms want to help certain kinds of students. For example, Veterans, women and minorities may qualify for the scholarships.
But often they invite any undergraduate or law student (1L, 2L, or 3L) to apply. Law students must attend an accredited USA college, university, or law school. Apart from these criteria, a scholarship may come with a few qualifiers. They will also look at your GPA and record of community service.
Along with this information, an application may ask for reference letters. These attest to your character and may come from employers, professors or mentors.
To narrow the field of applicants, a law firm may also ask you to write an essay or cover letter for the scholarship. You could explain your future goals or point of view on a legal matter. You might also need to describe why a specific type of law interests you. So, if you have any related studies, internships or experiences, these may help you stand out.
How Do Scholarships from Law Firms Help Pay for College?
A law firm scholarship may be useful if your goal is to pursue a three year law degree. Scholarships may help cover your tuition, fees, room and board and other expenses. According to Data USA, a law degree at a public college costs about $8,698 per year. Tuition is much higher ($42,627) at private colleges. Once you graduate, there are many possible career paths and areas of practice.
Apart from a sharp mind, lawyers tend to need a Juris Doctor (JD degree). The average salary is $120,910 per year. So, this may be an option to prepare for.
An example of a law firm scholarship is Rise to Shine Scholarship. Allen, Flatt, Balladis & Leslie Inc. awards one winner $1,000 to cover educational expenses. To qualify, applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, be a US citizen or permanent resident, and currently be a high school senior or undergrad.

Life is a journey filled with unexpected challenges, and sometimes, the unexpected can change the course of our lives in an instant. During these critical moments, a helping hand can make all the difference. We at Perenich Law Injury Attorneys are proud to announce the A Friend In Need Scholarship to honor and celebrate the power of human compassion and resilience. This scholarship opportunity is a testament to the belief that adversity can be a transformative experience, leading individuals to lend a helping hand to those in need or receiving one themselves. Through this scholarship, we hope to inspire kindness throughout our communities.
We invite students to share a personal story of empathy, selflessness, and resilience. Have you ever been in a situation where you rushed to help someone who faced a traumatic accident? Your story could inspire others to be compassionate and proactive in helping those in need.
Conversely, was there a time when someone’s kindness and support changed the trajectory of your life following a traumatic event? Perhaps a friend, family member, or even a stranger stepped in when you needed it most. How did their actions shape your perspective on life?
Share your experiences of providing or receiving comfort, support, and assistance during a time of crisis. Through this scholarship, we will award one student with $1,000 to be used towards reaching their academic goals.
More than ever before, humans are turning their attention to the environment and the importance of its preservation. A light has been shed on some of the irreparable damage that has already been done and alarms are being sounded to not only cease further harm, but also heal ongoing problems. As the perpetual build-up of waste and pollutants fill our modern world, there are several organizations and individuals across our beautiful nation that are committed to making a difference. These contributors work and innovate to create solutions that may sustain the comforts we have grown used to, while also caring for the earth around us.
One example of a company that has worked to make a difference is Ale-8-One, a popular regional soft drink manufacturer. For 100 years, this Kentucky-based company participated in a program that allowed for the reuse of its 100% recyclable glass beverage bottles. These traditional longneck bottles were purchased and then brought back to participating locations and thereafter returned to the manufacturer to be sanitized and reused. This recycling program eliminated monumental amounts of glass from landfills while also conserving resources. Although this program is coming to a close in 2023, Ale-8-One continues to find ways to help maintain our country’s natural beauty through its participation in the “Commonwealth Collective” recycling program, further proving their commitment to preservation efforts.
Like Ale-8-One, there are a growing number of individuals and organizations making valuable efforts to be environmentally friendly. Now, our team at Maze Law Offices wants to highlight these individuals and organizations through our Environmental Heroes Scholarship!
Learning that a parent or guardian has a serious illness is life-shattering. For students, coping with the physical and emotional aspects of a parent’s illness while handling the responsibilities and pressures of school, activities, and social lives can be particularly overwhelming. Our team at OnderLaw knows all too well the devastation families go through when a parent is diagnosed with cancer. The experiences someone goes through are painful, but sharing them can be a catalyst for moving forward.
To help honor those who are fighting cancer or who have lost their battle, we are asking students to write an essay answering the question: What would you tell someone about what is important in life, knowing what cancer has taught you?
We want this to be an opportunity to open a dialogue about cancer and how it affects real people. Ultimately, we hope this scholarship provides an outlet for children of parents with cancer to process their grief, recognize their personal strengths, and start a dialogue about serious illness, mental health, and the value of living life to its fullest.
Since 1985, the lawyers affiliated with Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp have dedicated their practice to helping people when they need it most and to fighting against injustice in the civil trial practice. Our personal injury attorneys have spent almost four decades fighting for clients who are unable to fight for themselves and seek to balance the scales of civil justice. Our law firm has successfully represented countless numbers of personal injury accident victims in the Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads, Virginia, areas who suffered serious injuries due to the negligent and reckless acts of others.
Our attorneys have obtained over $100 million in personal injury insurance settlements and jury awards for victims of vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, and railroad/FELA injuries. We also fight for the families of victims who tragically do not survive their injuries, pursuing damages in wrongful death lawsuits.
In keeping with our firm’s dedication to advocating for accident victims and our commitment to the civil justice systems in the local communities we serve, we are very proud to announce the Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp Bright Futures Scholarship.
The criminal justice system can be an intimidating and overwhelming place, especially for those who do not have the legal knowledge to cope with it.

At Fredson Statmore Bitterman, we are committed to promoting road safety and encouraging good driving behaviors to protect all road users. We are pleased to announce the Share the Road Scholarship. This scholarship aims to recognize and support students who demonstrate a strong commitment to keeping our roads safe and fostering a culture of responsible driving. By sharing the road responsibly, we can ensure the well-being of pedestrians, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and all others who use our roadways.
This topic goes beyond statistics and regulations—it is about preserving lives and protecting our loved ones. We are asking students to reflect on the importance of road safety and the collective responsibility we hold. We believe that education and awareness campaigns are powerful in transforming behaviors and fostering a safe driving culture. However, we want to hear from students on what else could be done to make our roads safer. We ask students to explore the potential of technological advancements to revolutionize road safety, paving the way for a future where every journey is marked by security and well-being.
