Hands were made for doing. The hands of a carpenter carve, the hands of a sculptor make beautiful things, the hands of a mother love, the hands of a father protect. Mine are the hands of a house painter. They are covered in wall paints of every hue. The hands of a painter can only do so much at one time, they are limited to the width of a brush. The hands of a painter are constrained to the abilities of the tools he is given, to the room he is placed in. My dream is to be no longer constrained to the room in which I paint. I want to study economics, and affect the lives of people far beyond the reach of my brush. I want to be able to rectify failing economies of rural villages of third world countries all over the world, and in doing so enable and educate others to be able to create self sustaining economies within their villages, and be able to help other villages do the same.
I learned a long time ago that where you are and what you are doing doesn’t matter nearly as much as what you are trying to do, and who you are willing to become. This painter wants to paint a bright future, as an economist, for thousands of lives who might then be able to use their hands to make something beautiful.

Scholarship tips from our winner
How to create a winning scholarship essay
“Finding just the right scholarship is often the hardest part, the writing process is really the fun part. When I start writing an essay for a scholarship, I run through several drafts. I don’t mean that I write one draft and then keep revising it, I mean that I write a draft, take perhaps one idea or sentence out of it that I really like, and use that to write my new essay round. I repeat that process until I have something that I actually think sounds good. I’ve also found that when I write at really absurd hours of the night I become much more creative. The biggest key, though, is to find that one idea that just really feels right, and keep working with it. Write and write and rewrite until it feels how it’s supposed to feel.”
How to find scholarships
“I’ll generally search for scholarships between once and twice a month, and when I do, I usually check on a couple of websites that offer lots and lots of scholarships so that I can choose from a myriad of options. The primary website I use is actually Unigo because it definitely offers the
best selection of scholarships and the
best matching system. The Internet really is a great tool for searching for scholarships, as well. If you simply type in “Economics Scholarship” or “Essay Scholarship” into Google, you will instantly come across dozens of websites catering to that exact search.”
