This award is available for international and U.S. college sophomore and juniors who are pursing a career in metallurgical and/or materials science and engineering with an emphasis on the science and engineering of load-bearing materials, including studies into the nature of a material’s physical properties based upon its microstructure and operating environment. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Light Metals Division (LMD) Scholarship
This award is available for international and U.S. college sophomores or juniors who are pursing a career in metallurgical and/or materials science engineering with an emphasis on both traditional (aluminum, magnesium, beryllium, titanium, lithium, and other reactive metals) and emerging light metals (composites, laminates, etc.). Students must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship
This award is available for international and U.S. undergraduate and/or graduate students who are pursing a career in metallurgical and/or materials science and engineering with an emphasis on all aspects of the high-temperature, high-performance materials used in the gas turbine industry and all other applications. Preference will be given to students pursuing a curriculum or career in superalloys. Students must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Extraction and Processing Division (EPD) Scholarship
This award is available for international and U.S. college juniors and/or seniors. Students must be enrolled in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program. The applicant must be a member of the Material Advantage student program. (A student membership application may accompany the scholarship application.)
Functional Materials Division Gilbert Chin Scholarship
This award is available for international and U.S. college juniors and/or seniors. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be enrolled in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program. The applicant must be a member of the Material Advantage student program. (A student membership application may accompany the scholarship application.)
SME Education Foundation Family Scholarship
This award is for U.S. and international students who have a minimum of one parent or grandparent who has been an SME member in good standing for the last two years (includes step-mothers and step-fathers). The applicant must be a high school senior or current undergraduate student who has completed no more than 30 college credit hours and have a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
Steinman Scholarship Award
This award is for U.S. students who are entering their junior year of an engineering program.
Fred M. Young Sr./SAE Engineering Scholarship
High school seniors planning to enroll in an ABET-accredited engineering program are eligible for this award. An eligible applicant must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher and SAT/ACT scores ranking in the 90th percentile.
Tau Beta Pi/SAE Engineering Scholarship
High school seniors planning to enroll in an ABET-accredited engineering program are eligible for this award. The applicants must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher and SAT/ACT scores ranking in the 90th percentile.
F. W. ‘Beich’ Beichley Scholarship
U.S. college sophomores and juniors who are enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or related baccalaureate program in the United States are eligible to apply for this award. Students must demonstrate financial need.
