Coming out of high school I had an idea of what I wanted to do this my life but it was very general. Now as I been in college I am starting to focus in on what it is that I want to do and came to realize that I join doing medical research. Research will require many years in college where i will be able to refine my knowlegde and skills in becoming an effective researcher.

My college experience so far has comprised of excitement, nervousness, hope and determination to succeed. I remember my first day of classes with questions buzzing through my head. Questions that included; will I make it there on time? What will my professor be like and will there be anyone I know in this class? Is Air Force ROTC really going to make me the leader I need to be? With this nervousness came the hope and determination to succeed, because Baylor portrays an atmosphere of acheivement, which encouraged me to do my best. A few months pass and I quickly settled into routine; who my friends are, which cafeteria had the best meals. The air of achievement still surrounds me and though I struggle with courses such as chemistry or spanish I still keep up the hard work knowing I am a Baylor Bear. My friends prove supportive and helpful and my roommate and I click, a pleasant suprise that I appreciate more than I can say. Finals drag on and as I rewind during winter break and hear my friends at home speak of their college experience I appreciate the atompshere of support and achievement baylor offers me.

In our younger years, we find the question of career choice early. Whether we are asked by school teachers or parents, the answers vary from astronaut to police officer. It is only when we reach a mature age our answers become realistic. My first answers were broadcast journalist and teacher because I wanted to touch the lives of others.Community involvement has always been a part of my life. My high school years in Girl Scouts, Model UN, and Youth & Government proved instrumental towards finding my passion. Upon college, I chose involvement in the service motivated sorority, Tri-Sigma. Tri-Sigma proves to be different from other sororities because the main focus remains on service. Service is close to my heart because of my experiences in Girl Scouts where we organized service projects such as Christmas Caroling in art of my life. My high school years in Girl Scouts, Model UN, and Youth & Government proved instrumental towards finding my passion.

So far into my college experience, I have learned there is a world outside of the bubble I grew up in. This journey allowed for me to see other ways of life and to even leave the country for a semester. Through my studies, I gained new friends, new interests, and a better understanding of what I want to do with my future. I would not have been to find myself and learn so much about thw world if I had not attended a university. It has been the best years of my life and the most rewarding oppurtunity I have accepted. I have no regrets.

It is my belief that a life of education is the only life worth truly living. Everyday I learn something new and with this each day of my life is progressive. Baylor students and faculty are truly enthusiastic about our university and it shows in the classroom. I have learned that I can do thing I never thought possible and exceed in subject that were foreign when I first began. As a freshman one may feel like one tiny speck out of thousands,. Yet, I quickly realized that I am an intricate part of the community and that my success is also the succes of the school. I am now more confident that I can achieve my goals and onl need the opportunity to do so.

A resonating and lengthy "A" is shouted out by a Baylor student from across the room. His hand is up in the air in the shape of a bear claw and he's looking around for fellow supporters. Within seconds the room erupts in "Aaaaaaaa! SIC 'EM BEARS!", and once it's done the students proceed as normal. I have never experienced this uniqueness that only Baylor has. The sense of unity and fellowship has made me feel like I never left my home in Tennessee. I fell in love instantly.
In my wildest dreams, I could not have fathomed leaving home and driving twelve hours to a private university: a place where I would know no one, and they would not know me. Baylor has given me hope for a future. Both the faculty and students have been helpful and kind. We push each other for excellence and success, and you will always see those same faces that cheered you on in the classroom at weekend Baylor sports games. I have been able to develop myself academically and spirtually moreso than I could have if I had stayed at home. Baylor University is where I found God.

My college experience has only been one semester as of now but I have come to embrace the experience. Classes are much different than they were in high school. You are on your own in college. The teachers want the best for us but it is up to us to make the best of our studies. No more notes of concern to our parents . We are now fully responsible for our own future. As Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz said, we are no longer in Kansas.

College has been valuable to me because I have seen first hand the difference an education makes. In my family both of my parents have degrees and professional jobs. But my sister decided not to go to college after high school. Instead her focus was on her relationship with her boy friend, who is now her husband. She has two children and her work experience has been limited to low paying service jobs. I have seen how hard it is on her to make ends meet and do not want to follow that path. I often wonder why she chose not to go to college when school seemed to be so easy for her. But her priorities were different from mine. I want to have an education and a professional job like my parents. I have learned valuable life skills this year, and will learn more in the years to come because of my college experiences. These experiences will shape me into an adult and make me who I will be the rest of my life.

Despite having being in college for merely one semester, I have learned a lot about myself and my values. With college came a freedom and independence I have not experienced before and with such independence. At first, I did not take my classes seriously and took advantage of all my "free time". I hardly studied and frequently went out, making new friends and exploring the new world. Hence, I earned poor grades on my first round of exams. Realizing that I needed to put more time into my studies, I put in more effort but it was still not my number one priority as I was unwilling to give up my social activities. Having still making poor grades on my second exams, I then knew I needed to straighten my priorities and worked harder to earn high grades on the last of my exams. Not only have I learned many things in my classes, I have learned the value of time, money, family, and most importantly, education.

Even after just one semester of being on my own at college, I feel like I have learned so much and grown so much as a person. I have had to face many obstacles and challenges on my own, ranging from learning to do my own laundry to roommate issues to coping with my Grandfather's death without my family to lean on. I have also learned so much in my studies, and have greatly enjoyed my classes, which came as quite a surprise to me. I have met so many amazing people that I will keep in my heart for the rest of my life. I am so grateful that I got the chance to attend such a prestigious university to start my life journey. I am confident that everything I am learning and have learned will help me greatly in my future. I hope that my continuing years at Baylor will prove to be just as succesful and enjoyable as this year.

My college experience has been great up to this point of my life as well as very valuable. I have met all type of people and I have shared my knowledge with theirs. I also have faced many challenges that almost make me fall, but with my eager for learning and the help of my college mates and professors I have been able to overcome all of them. I know that by focusing nothing will be able to defeat me. It has been also very valuable for me to attend college, because by educating myself, I will be able to provide a better future to my family, as well as I will be a better example for younger generations. Therefore, I will show other people that education is the best thing a person can have, because nobody will be able to steal it from you never.

From my college experience I have learned to be more responsible, independent, and have learned the value of hard work. Many of my friends stress out about their GPA and getting into med school, but I have learned that you cannot change the past, so don't stress about it! You can only try your best and hope that is enough, complaining won't change anything. I have learned so much and made so many great friends, it is easy to say that my educational experience is valuble to me!

One of the biggest things I've learned from my college experience is how much I don't know. College is truly a mind-opening experience. You are challenged to investigate why you believe what you believe, and you find that rather than destroying your belief, it can make it stronger and deeper than it was before. For the first time since kindergarten, you regullarly take naps. You find yourself in social situations that can either cause you to grow as a person or shrink back with immaturity. Your eyes are opened to the prejudices of others and most importantly, yourself. For a brief moment in time, you openly talk to strangers. Family and friends actually become a priority when you do go "home", because you now begin to appreciate the sanctity of a human life. You hear about the scope of some of the world's greatest problems, hunger, poverty, disease, war, oppression, and then you see it in your own backyard. But at the same time, you feel as if you have the power to do something about it. In short, college is where you learn to be, or not to be.

There is nothing better than the feeling of belonging to something and that's how I feel with Baylor. Relationships with people are the biggest deal to me, and the relationships that I have been able to accumulate with not only other students but with professors are irreplaceable.

College has been the most incredible time of my life. I have grown closer to my family, met life long friends, and cultivated an understanding of the world that is invaluable. I originally came to college to be a rich man. I was looking for success, expecting to get a degree and a great job. Everything I have since learned has shown me that there is more to life than money. From the people I have met and the things I have experienced, it is clear to me that no matter how much money I make I will always be just a very small part of the world. So as an architect, I want to be a part of building a world that I would be proud to pass onto future generations. I want to help create homes where children can grow up as a part of a loving family. I want to design hospitals that foster a sincere sense of care for patients. I want to build office buildings where workers do not have to spend the next twenty years stuck in fluorescent-lit cubicles. I know that without college, I would never have gained this knowledge and insight.

From my college experience, I have gained a greater understanding of the world, the people in it and the God who created the world. Through my Neuroscience, Psychology, Anthropology and Linguistics classes, I have learned how people think, feel and experience the world in different ways and how all of these conceptualizations of the universe have their roots in the same desire to love and to live. In addition to the knowledge gained, I have made lifelong friends whom I treasure and will remain connected with after graduation. Through classes, friends, and experiences I have grown as a person and matured.

At a time, this question ran through my head on a regular basis. On the verge of dropping out of college, I could not conjure up a reason to stay enrolled. Was it societal pressure that made college feel necessary? Was it for the future income? Superficial reasons that many abide by could not act as a proper justification to satisfy my once lackluster motivation. Upon my personal discovery and fondness of the science of Geography, I finally became aware of a motivation to stay, and better yet, strive for and succeed in getting straight A's. the number one reason I go to college is personal enrichment. I could care less about the future jobs to come, or how the big-wig campus snoots percieve me. I attend college to obtain knowledge and utilize it in my life. My education allows me to explore the world. College offers me an opportunity that is only available to a small percentage of the human race. I accept the challenge to better myself and therefore better the world through means of education.

Even though the time spent in college is short, the effects of attending are felt for the rest of a person's life. My college experience has enlightened me in so many ways; I feel like a candle being lit by a flame, burning brightly for the first time. College has shown me who I really am, my weaknesses, my strengths; it's like an omniscient mirror reflecting who I really am on the inside. I've learned a lot of practical information and information about life in general by attending my first year of college (such as the need for adept time management and problem solving skills). I also had a lot of fun by meeting new people and by trying new activities. It has been a blessing to attend Baylor University because of the tough challenges it provided; these challenges included taking rigorous classes, joining student organizations, and becoming a leader. There were a few times that I felt overwhelmed by the tasks facing me. Yet the challenges have all been worth it because I feel more empowered and prepared for life, which is the main reason why it has been valuable to attend Baylor.

I try not to take my college experience for granted. In order for me to stay up to date and educated with current events, I read the University Chronicle and Outlook Magazine and listen to KVSC radio to keep myself current and educated. I like to take optional courses that cause curiosity in me and are outside of my Finance major. I am going to join the Catholic Student Community in January. A major goal of mine is to make lasting friends and grow vastly while attending St. Cloud State University. I always look forward to watching SCSU Men’s Hockey and enrolling in group fitness classes, such as Yoga and Water Aerobics. To relieve homework stress, I like to listen, sing, and dance to the Twin Cities Hit Music Station often. I enjoy attending college level theatre and may someday be part of the SCSU Women’s Choir. College has been so valuable for me to attend because nowhere else in my life will I be around so many diverse people with such varied and comparable interests at the same time.

I’ve challenged myself to be more than a stereotype, and to surpass expectations. In this process I’ve learned that life is not as simple as I thought. Before going to Baylor I assumed that you chose a path to follow in life and stuck to it no matter what, but now after a few years of experience I know that life is what you make of it. Nothing comes easy, you have to work for what you want and in this process you are challenged to be better than you could have ever imagined. One of the friends I met at Baylor gave me the best advice, “life is a series of brick walls, you have to embrace them and find ways to surpass them in order to achieve your goals. Those who give up stay behind, but those who strive and work hard find ways around the wall, even if that means digging under it with a spoon.” Although it made me laugh at first it’s true, choosing to go to college is one of the best decisions I have ever made because it has made me realize that life is tough, but not impossible.
