While there are many students from prep schools, I don't think that this is a negative stereotype. You would never know unless they tell you, and it has never been an issue. Many students are from the Boston area, but many more are from all over the country. There are a ton of athletes and most people do drink, but if that doesn't apply to you, there are plenty of other things to get involved with and to do on the weekends.
Oliver
To some degree, yes
Blake
No, although there are a few individuals who stick to this.

I would say a little less than half of the student population is from the Boston area. But really, people come from everywhere. On my floor alone there are people from Texas, Colorado, Florida, and Canada, so there's a pretty diverse mix. Tuition here is very high, so there are many wealthy students who have homes in the Bahamas or go there with friends for vacation, but there are people from every background. Wealth isn't flaunted so it's not really an issue anyways. As for lobster- every year does start off with a school wide, outdoors, lobster bake. It's a great tradition that brings everyone back together after a summer apart. And just in case you don't like lobster, they also have steak or chicken and delicious sides like roasted corn.

There are definitely people who fit these stereotypes, and they are prominent on campus. However, there are many, many students who don't fit this version, of a Bowdoin student, and they are what makes Bowdoin students so wonderfully fascinating. While many people on the outside seem to appear the same (clothing and skin tone), once you immerse yourself at Bowdoin, you realize that everyone here is their own, unique person, with individual interests and passions.

To a minimal degree... there are all types of people at Bowdoin... including the preppy, upper class kids, but I can honestly say that I have never met anyone stuck-up at Bowdoin. We all know we are here because we are qualified to be here, and we respect each other for that.
Aaron
There is some validity to the former, but there is still a great mix of diversity, and Bowdoin tries really hard to attract a diverse student body.
The latter is not fair to most Bowdoin students, who don't seem spoiled at all.
Caroline
No, the girls are not completely unfortunate and the guys aren't exactly hot.
Brittany
Everyone is smart.
There is a good amount of preppiness, but there are other styles as well.
While many students are from the Boston area, Bowdoin does a great job of attracting people from every state and many different countries!
BOWDOIN GIRLS ARE NOT UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
